| Good music. Weird accent, northeastern and southern...*looking them up* Aha! North Carolina. That explains the mix.
I'm of the opinion that politicians are all the same regardless of their stances or parties. They're there for themselves and their cronies, screw everyone else. With our current world culture of greed, every country is going to hell in a rolling luggage (handbasket is way too small now) sooner or later. They're all hypocrits and liars and good talkers. Very few are leaders.
People as a group are idiots. So they choose idiots to lead them. Fitting.
I'm just glad we're living in some of the few places where we do not have to fend off robbers or government agents (soldiers & police) on a daily-nightly basis. For those who don't, may my God and whoever else you pray to protect you.

| Not sure whether to be disturbed by the fact I'm close to agreeing with you on nearly all points, Julie. Becoming disillusioned with leadership on a national and local level is now a real possibility. If people don't stand up for something, they'll fall down for anything.
Randoms:
At the end of last week, a professional floor polisher started work on my verandah. Over two days, he sanded and puttied in quite hot and windy weather. On Monday he'll begin the clear, gloss poly finish. No stain needed as the timber is just gorgeous. I am so excited to see and use my re-vamped favourite room in the house.
Early this morning, I planted two verbenas, two damperia ground covers, one marguerite daisy and four blue salvias in the remaining quadrant of the garden. Work is done for the day. Rest for the rest of it.

| Nay...come to the dark side...we have tacos.
I hope you offered the poor bloke cold drinks. Of all the plants you names, I recognize "ground covers" and "daisy".
Why is it everytime Warcraft adds new content to the game my computer becomes inadequate?
Who's sick and tired of the Olympics? Over the last couple of decades it seems like they took humongous steps from being about athleticism to commercialism.

| I've been playing Warcraft for 6 years. I think it's fun. I've always played some computer games. Do NOT start playing any multiplayer games. If you find the right one for you, you'll never have time to do anything else again.

| Yes, I have heard online games can be addictive. It's something I've avoided but I see it in my students quite a lot. I don't eat yoghurt. Is Greek supposed to be one of the best?
Here's an interesting story ... Has Señor Butler been in Glasgow lately?

I don't know the differences in yogurts. I don't eat them either. But I keep hearing and seeing mentions of Greek yogurt. To me rotten milk is rotten milk.

| I don't think this is my friend's recipe, Julie. But it certainly looks the same (except a double layer and with cream cheese icing). Deeeeeelicious! If we thought of yoghurt as rotten milk, then we have to say blue cheese is foul ... And I will never believe that!

Random:
My stars say that a truth will be reinforced by a person from my past and that actions speak louder than words. This weekend, I have organised a mini-reunion for two college girlfriends and myself. I suspect, in the light of some recent changes, that there will be some interesting vibes and conversations.

| Actions do speak louder than words. Gee, a person from your past. Such a broad category.
My friends come and go. They step into my life for a little while then they step out.
Oh, yeah, blue cheese IS foul. That link crashed my browser. I'm not a yogurt person, defintely not a mold person.

| Crashed your 'puter? That's bizarre because I checked it again and nothing happened to my iPad. Blue cheese is a weakness of mine. Therefore it cannot be bad for you. No way, never ever.
Friends can be short or long term, season or lifetime, casual or deep. These particular college friendships are very long term and definitely deep but certainly contained times of closeness and distance. It will be interesting to see how long our conversations last now after so much time.
Ever feel like you're too bloated with good food? I need to slow down and eat smaller for a few weeks to lose my holidays indulgences. Uncomfortable.
Julie, do you know how to cook a steak properly? It's something I think I should learn so I can enjoy a rib fillet more often.
Where are Sami, Shar and Donna? I feel like Julie and I are the only ones holding up a conversation lately.

| Wherever you guys are and whatever you're doing, HI!
Nay, I don't cook. I can boil water, make rice in a rice cooker, microwave stuff, toast bread and bagels in a toaster. That's pretty much it. I married someone who cooks. I hate all the mess involved with cooking, mostly the preparations and clean up. I don't smelling like cooking, either.
From watching cooking shows, you turn on your heat source (I've seen people on TV try to cook with cold stoves or ovens) then put your steak on the grill or pan, sear the outside, then either leave on the grill or put the pan with the steak into the oven for some amount of time. You touch the steak to check for donesness. I think Gordon Ramsay said if it feels like your cheek it's rare, chin means medium, and forehead means well done.
What's rib fillet? *looking up* Says rib fillet is a rib roast without the bone. Are you talking about a steak (paperback book like) or a roast (loaf of bread like)? Cooking a steak is different than cooking a whole roast. Also found this:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/422331-how-to-cook-a-whole-piece-of-rib-fillet/
My favorite beef cut is filet mignon, especially chateaubriand (center cut). No grizzles or connective tissues or bones. A nice hollandaise goes well with it. Now I want some.

| Just dealing with aging parents and the loss of my pet bird. As a matter of a fact.....I've been to 4 funerals and/or memorial services in the last few weeks. Been a rather trying and sad summer, but I'm hanging in and kicking. I don't cook much, but it's because I prefer raw veggies to anything else! No one else in my house likes to eat like I do. I'm gonna try to do better about keeping up with things here, well, except Gerry. Kinda lost interest in his shenanigans. LOVE ALL! | |

| Hi guys! I love Greek style yogurt. It's thick and creamy, not thin and sour. Hate blue cheese--it smells like something has already eaten it. Love a nice thick, well grilled steak. I got hungry just reading the posts. Sorry I haven't been around a lot. I look in, but I'm just to lazy to sign in and post. Still got the doldrums. I am now officially old. In a few days, I'll be 65. Just signed up for Social Security. Nope, I can't afford to retire, but at least I might qualify for a few old-folks discounts. Hey! now I'm actually a dirty old woman! Looking forward to the cruise. Yes, there will be pictures. Love you all! | |

| Wow! I beetlejuiced Sami and Shar in one go!!
Thanks for the steak cooking tips, Julie. Rib Fillet is a cut of meat in Australia. You can also have a rib roast, rolled or otherwise. You have expensive tastes, missy. Chateaubriand, fillet mignon. Oohlala.
Sami, Shar, Sami, Shar, you've been missed. Welcome back, ladies.
The doldrums can be helped by inane chitchat, Shar. But cruising one of the great oceans will certainly kick it in the ass. Pishtosh to getting old. Dirty, yes. Old, no. Sami, who cares about Butler? I'm just happy to hear from you again. Hang in there with your sad times. This too shall pass.

Yep, life goes on. Today, I'll take getting older over being dead.
I love chateaubriand. I love McDonald's fries. I have eclectic taste. I've never had chateaubriand with McDonald's fries, though. I need to try that sometime.
It's gotten cooler here, down to the 70's from 90's. I wonder if it'll last.

| McDonalds soaks their fries in sugar water before they freeze them. The fries are delcious, but if you are sensitive to sugar, you have to be careful. Most people don't know it, actually, but a former boss of mine found out when a diabetic friend of his had some issues after eating there. And yeah...it's probably some weird Americano thing. LOL! We love our sugar here. Well, most do anyway.
Have fun at the coast! Sounds lovely!

| Even without the sugar soaking all the carbs in potatoes will send diabetics into sugar orbit anyway. The oil helps the carbs to not metabolize all at once but it's still carbs. Carbs = sugar. It's mainly the oil that gets to me if the temp wasn't high enough or the oil is old.
I don't think McDonald's should be one of the top choices for diabetics. Too much bread and potatoes and cookies and shakes and pies and sugared sodas and sundaes and fruits. I know for normal people fruits are good for you, but give fruits (just fruits) to a diabetic and you get to watch them do the sugar rush.
Restaurants put more sugar into kid's foods than adult foods. My kid used to order cheese pizzas wherever we went and I've tried them. They tasted off but kids love them. Then I found out it's the extra sugar in the dough. I definitely keep my mouth away from kid's menu items.

| Even the "healthy" choices like salads can do you in. Sugar in the dressing and carbs in all the nice crunches that make the lettuce tasty. Then, because you've been sooooo good by just having the salad, you deserve a little ice cream or cookie. The next morning you wonder what made your sugar so high. Yep, been there/ done that (and will do that again, I'm sure ) I can't seem to stop buying stuff for the cruise. I think it's a sickness. Of course, when I think about it, I still have to pick up a few more things. Camera stuff, and personal stuff, and stuff for Missy to take with her to the vet's, and, and, and ----- I'm doomed. | |

| I guess I am lucky in that I don't really care for sugar and don't eat much. On the other hand...I LOVE salty and CHEESE!!!!!!!!! I quit using salad dressing about 5 years ago. It took some getting used to , but now I don't like the taste of dressings anymore. | |

| Really? Sugar soaked fries? That is utterly shameless. How the hell can McDonalds justify that? Do they doubt the quality of their potato supplies? I know someone who works in a store here so I shall ask if Australians do it too, Sami.
Shar, don't feel guilty about purchasing for the cruise. I just hope you relax and soak up the views and enjoy your friends' company.
My little sojourn at the Sunshine Coast was just what I needed. Good food, too much food actually. Great company, quiet moments and giggly moments. Fantastic views of the river and ocean. Long walks along the esplanade each morning.
Now back to reality. I still have some jobs to complete at home before heading back to work. One more week of freeeeedom!
PS Cheese is my weakness too.
