Did you enjoy your cultural evening, Dallas? Any foreign language films?
Saw a film yesterday. Two today. One was Italian (with English subtitles) starring Tilda Swinton. The English title is "I Am Love". It was very good. Have two tomorrow. So I've been kind of MIA on the board lately. More later.

| On being thankful, I'm thankful I don't live in Somali. Bras are banned there. And movies, and musical ringtones, and music. | |

| Three more movies today. One was with Charlize Theron- The Burning Plain - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068641/. It was okay. The director was there - and was late. He lives in Denton, TX (about 40 min. north of Dallas) and got stuck in traffic! One was Irish and was good (His and Hers: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1550533/). And the last was called "Brotherhood". It just premiered at South By Southwest in Austin. It was awesome. The director/writer is from Arlington (a suburb of Dallas) and it was filmed there. He was there with his co-writer and a bunch of the actors. Some were sitting a couple of seats down from me. Good Q & A. I recommend the movie. http://www.brotherhoodthemovie.com/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1273241/
I'll try to post about the others later. I have to get to bed. I am only seeing one tomorrow b/c I have church. Yes, I go to church. Shut up.
BTW, I'm looking forward to session with John Lee Hancock on Thursday. It's basically an audience converesation with the writer/director of The Blind Side. He's from TX - which I didn't know until now. Kinda cool

| Dallas--I am so jealous of you. I know you are having fun! Thanks for sharing. I am going to add those movies to my list.
Today, I found out just what I would do for a Klondike bar.

| What did you do for a Klondike Bar?
My feet hurt. My ankles and knees and hips and back hurt. Bending and carrying and standing a lot hurt. Next time they want volunteers to serve teachers' luncheon or set up for book fair I'm unplugging my phone and ignoring my emails, and if they find me, I'll send a check.

| Ouch Julie! Sorry! I hope you get some rest but kudos for volunteering!
I didn't do anything too bad--I didn't even flash the guy. But I was in a convenience store in a town where I knew no one and was 11 cents short and I needed ice cream! Didn't want to break out the credit card so I asked the hot guy standing behind me for some the 11 cents. He gave it to me--no questions, nothing. I think he found it amusing because when I thanked him he just smiled and said, "no, thank you." Probably going to tell his buddies about the crazy girl who asked him for money later.
So apparently, I will panhandle and flirt for ice cream.

| Well, my luck ran out tonight. I have seen eight movies thus far at DIFF and all have been pretty good to great. Tonight.....ugh. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never did. It was called "Carried Away" and people were laughing at parts that weren't that funny. I'm convinced that they were either drunk, or involved with the movie. The movie was just painful. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1383702/ The premise sounded promising, but the film was horrible. (Coincidentally, the youngest brother in this film was also in "Brotherhood" which was probably the best movie that I have seen thus far during this festival - and a great movie by any standards.)
Afterwards the director had a Q&A with the cast (I swear the ENTIRE cast had to be there). I didn't want to be rude, but I couldn't take it any longer and bolted for the door with my friend.
It made me wonder if those actors etc. really thought it was a good movie. And what someone like Gerry must really feel when he has to promote a stinker. He should get an acting award in those circumstances, because he really is enthusiastic when he promotes his movies, and IMO not all of them have been worthy of his enthusiasm. I guess it is just part of the business of making movies.....
On a side note, as I was leaving I passed several Massaratis, Bentleys, Mercedes etc at the valet right outside of the venue. If those belonged to anyone involved with that piece of crap that I just saw, then I am truly depressed and in the wrong field.

I always thought law is a rake-in-the-money field. If someone manages to break into the film industry, they can make lots of money. The hard part is getting to that sweet spot.

| What I feel sorry for are the actors trying to make it in the theatre (Broadway, etc) and some Hollyweird person comes along and gets the part just because they are...Hollyweird. | |

| Saw two more movies today, but the highlight was a Conversation/Interview with John Lee Handcock, writer and director of The Blind Side. Interestingly, he is a Texan who studied law at Baylor. (I considered going to Baylor, myself). He practiced for about 3 1/2 years and then got into writing etc. It was very interesting, and I enjoyed it a ton. Makes me want to change careers.... BTW, I'm going to see Frank Darabont on Saturday morning. I would love to know what his script version of Law Abiding Citizen was like. | |

| It's frickin' spring and the plants are mating. I developed allergies when I went to college and the campus was covered in oak trees. Didn't have them before I drowned in oak pollen. | |

| Dallas--loving your posts about the movies! And Happy Birthday!
I have a great porch with a tin roof outside my home office. Today I heard a ruckus on the roof and went outside to look. To make a long story short, it's apparently mating season for squirrels and my roof was the love suite.

| There's nothing like a good homecooked meal on a Saturday: grilled bbq chicken breast, scalloped potatoes, asparagus and apple strudel for dessert. | |

| Random:
Aaaahh, I just love a clear, crisp Autumn/Spring morning. The air is so pure and silent.
The fence, the job that was started in January, will be FINISHED today. Tonight, Le Pooch will be tossed heartlessly into the backyard to fend for himself. Not really. It would kill me.
