He plays a dedicated father in his latest film, the emotionally-wrought drama A Family Man.
But Gerard Butler took some time off from the promotional trail on Wednesday, as he larked around with a group of friends at the Amante Beach Club in Ibiza, Spain.
The 47-year-old actor appeared to be in great spirits as he gave a female friend a warm hug while laughing and chatting happily with his pals.
Having a whale of a time: Gerard Butler appeared to be in great spirits as he gave a female friend a warm hug while laughing and chatting happily with his pals
The London Has Fallen actor, who is dating Sarah Morgan, had his friends in stitches as they kicked back in a private seated area.
He went incognito in a baseball cap, which he teamed with a grey T-shirt and black shorts.
Gerard has been keeping busy promoting his new film A Family Man, in which he stars alongside Willem Dafoe and Alison Brie.

Look here: He appeared to show off a red rash on his thigh to his friends
Smile and waves boys: He ditched the typically polished Hollywood hunk look in Italy earlier this month, as he sported unruly curls and a scruffy ensemble
In it, he plays a hard-driven headhunter who learns his 10-year-old son, Ryan has cancer and is torn between his ambitions and familial life.
Gerard, who transformed into muscular King Leonidas for action 2007 film 300, was recently spotted sporting a sizeable paunch on a Mexican beach with girlfriend Morgan Brown.
Gerard, who ditched his gruelling workout regime to film thriller Keepers, has changed dramatically since his rise to fame in the mid-2000s.
What a difference a mane makes! The evening before, he cut a dapper figure as he slicked his unruly hair back and rocked a tailored navy suit
Sail away, sail away: He looked relaxed as rode from his luxury yacht to the sun-kissed beach
Casually cool: The screen star looked casually cool in a green top with patterned shorts
Making waves: The large group of pals excitedly waved as they neared the shore
The actor wore just a red cape and a pair of leather shorts to play legendary Spartan Leonidas, who was said to have lead 300 men into battle against the Persians.
The actor had to work out six-hours a day for seven months in the lead up to filming the action-packed flick.
He told Entertainment Tonight in 2007: 'You just keep stepping over little barriers. You're enjoying it because you know you'll never be like this again, so you think how much more can you push it?'
In the shade: He shielded his eyes from the sunshine with a stylish pair of aviator style shades
Leading the way: The screen star led his pals onto the golden shores as they made their exit
Lounging around: He reclined on a sun lounger as he chatted away with his pretty pal
You've got to hand it to him: He gesticulated enthusiastically during their conversation
In order to prepare for the role, Gerard enlisted the help of Venezuelan bodybuilder Franco LiCastro and mountain climber Mark Twight, who developed a special '300-rep Spartan workout' for him.
But a fine physique is not required for his latest film, where the Scottish star plays a lighthouse keeper in thriller Keepers.
Gerard, who stars alongside Peter Mullan and Joe Alwyn, plays one of three lighthouse keepers who disappeared without a trace on the Western Isles in 1900.
The actor has finished filming in Galloway, but it appears Gerard and the rest of the crew indulged in some fine Scottish cuisine while shooting the thriller.
