| Shara, quit buying. Don't you have stuff from back when we did conventions? | |

| Well, Yeah, but I need tropical-type goodies. (think orange, lime and aqua---and animal prints ) I thought I had enough stuff from before, but then I would see a great top (or two) and the new bathing suits required new cover-ups , and new pants to go with the dressy top. etc. etc. etc.---------------I am using the same luggage. Does that count as being thrifty?

| I thought you go on cruises so you can go shopping at exotic ports-of-call. You're supposed to go with half-empty luggage and fill up the rest with foreign products. Dude, wait to you are in the tropics to get tropical stuff. They might even be made there and a lot cheaper. The tropical stuff in your area are made in China and that ain't tropical. Swim suits I can understand since finding one that fits right takes forever.
You can have more luggage on a ship than on an airplane. Bring a large and medium, pack your stuff in the medium, and pack that in the large. That way you can buy out whole stores on the trip.
Do you need a passport for the trip, or to come home?

| A passport is required. I got mine in the spring. ( ugliest pic in the world--I look like a druggy with bad hair) I'm buying the light-weight clothing now because it's on sale, and being hard to fit, I really want to try to look nice and be comfy on the ship. So I'm getting it when I find it. ( OK, I'm a fat fashionesta) I admit that it never occurred to me to buy clothing while on vacation. I AM taking a fold-flat bag in my largest bag to carry goodies home. Can't wait to start packing. | |

| I ignore fashion.
I bought shirts and jackets and socks and shorts and shoes and hats on vacation. Mostly t-shirts with logos and graphics of wherever I was.
Shara, have fun packing and on your trip. Whatever you forget, your friends probably have some.

| Ok. I ignore what loud yappy people say is fashion. I do enjoy looking at runway show pictures with my kid. I use them as teaching tools about insanity and desperation. | |

| Cheeky? I saw those photos. Cheeky, indeed.
Federal government services. I don't know and don't really care. State and local governments are the important ones. They keep my roads clean, my traffic lights working, my garbage picked up, my water running, etc. I'm not sure what the federal government does other than taxing my money and trying to get me naked in airports.

| Naked in an airport? Never quite thought of it that way, Julie. I've had the bomb residue duster machine several times.
Prince Harry was very well behaved whilst down under. Almost disappointing really.
Public holiday here today (Labour Day) and that means ...... back to work tomorrow. Aagghh! I could totally get used to being paid to be a home body. Working in the afternoon and then napping away the afternoon. Is this what retirement would feel like?

| Retirement would be doing what you want when you want, so, probably.
In airports, some people are "randomly" selected for body searches, strip searches, and many airports have the x-ray scanners that show the outline of your body under your clothes, supposedly to only one person monitoring the scans and the scans aren't supposed to be recorded. When I had my teeth x-rayed I was given a lead apron to cover my body, and that's only for a couple of seconds. You have to stand in those machines for longer than a couple of seconds. I've never gone through the body x-rays, and don't want to. I have enough problems on my own.
I try to ignore stupidity and politics, especially when they collide. Last I heard all the furloughed US government workers are going to get paid for their time off. WHAT??

| Hello all, I'm posting from work and only have a minute but I wanted to give everyone an update on my internet (or lack thereof) situation: Sorry I've been on haitus, but I've been waiting what seems like a ridiculous amount of time for Charter to get the construction complete. After SEVERAL phone calls, the guy finally emailed me this morning to let me know the construction has been complete. He's going to try to rush the work order as quickly as he can. As soon as they get the paperwork or whatever complete, then they're supposed to contact me to set up an installation. Let's hope it doesn't take that much longer. It's been a long year without internet, and I thank all of you for your patience as I try to get back up and running. A special shout out to Nay for taking on the extra work and to Dallas for her help in keeping things going. I know it's been trying for everyone, but I want to thank ALL of you for not letting this forum go dead. As soon as I get my internet back, I'll be able to devote time here again. It's probably a good thing I didn't know when I sold my house that I would have to wait over a year to get internet again, or I probably wouldn't have moved! It's been lonely and sometimes depressing not getting to chat with everyone, I feel so left out. Keep your fingers crossed that Charter will get their butts moving!!! | |

| I know and I'm sorry to worry everyone. I try to tether through my phone but I've even been having problems with that lately. Keeping fingers crossed it won't be much longer. I use the internet for more than just this forum...bills, for example. I have to pay them from work for the most part, and I can't work from home if there's an emergency and I can't make it in. It's not real easy for me to access the net from work, either, as there are too many people in and out of this office and I don't like people nosing in my business. Speaking of which, I guess I should get back to work. | |

| Shoot! I missed DK's brief appearance. Hopefully next time will be longer, like all day everyday.
The temperature has been cooling off around here. My air-conditioner actually turned off for hours at a time. Can't wait for winter. I hope we get some good freezes this year. Bugs have been running rampage for too long now.

| So Julie, whilst temps drop there, ours continue to rise. Parts of Queensland have had 35+ degrees over the past couple of weeks. The warm days here are quite liveable at the moment but what has been doing my head in is the non-stop strong winds blowing for the past six weeks. It dries out the garden soil and my skin, leaves a layer of dust everywhere, sends kids silly and has the ability to irritate like not much else. No idea what is causing it but I sure as hell want it to end! Meteorologists are predicting 11 cyclones around Australia this summer and on average 4 will cross the coastline. Maybe I should be more worried about that possibility.
Random:
Stayed home today because of a sick pooch. Off his food (pretty big deal for a beagle) and quieter than normal. May have eaten some fertiliser yesterday.

| Dogs think everything is edible. A friend of mine had a lab or retriever who ate dry walls. Saw an episode of "My dog ate what?" where one dog ate an envelope filled with paper money. It needed surgery to remove the wads blocking it's intestines. All the bills and the dog survived.
A good time to take up kite flying, Nay. I miss flying kites. My brother got me a beginner's stunt kite many years ago. I really enjoyed it. So everytime there's a good kick of wind, not the destructive kind, I think "that's a good kite wind". I need to get the kite out again.
You should collect an emergency kit of some sort for you and the pups in case you lose power, get flooded in, or have to leave in a pinch. If I have to leave I need to make sure to take my meds, probably all of them. When Katrina and Rita hit around here, authorities told people in retirement homes they only need to take 3 days worth of meds with them. They ended up gone for a couple of weeks and had to scramble for meds wherever they ended up. Horrible advice.
