My impression of Glasgow...can't get over how compact it is. Makes it easier to get around. Of course I took pictures of the Rabbie Burns statue in Georges Square. I loved the Glaswegians. They are a friendly lot. Good thing I brushed up on the accent (Mrs. Brown), before going, their accent is very thick and endearing at the same time. And they are very willing to answer questions and not seemed bothered by them. What I loved about Glasgow and Glaswegians is that what you see IS what you get. It's rough, raw and downright fascinating. Their rivals 50 miles east thinks a bit too much of themselves, in my impression.

Of course, I asked just about every taxi driver(as my son cringed) if they knew who GB was and most of them teased and said they never heard of him. There was one fella who gave me a time of it and I think he truly knew him or, at least, of him. Oh my goodness, you didn't! That would have so embarrassed me if I was with you, PJ! But when we visitied the Strathclyde Fire Brigade(had to visit - there's firemen in our family) near Paisley, they are very proud to have GB as their "native son". The firies knew him? Maybe by reputation - I wonder how many mysterious fires happened during someone's college days?? scratch Anyway, I wish we had had a chance to visit a pub that had true folk music (bagpipes, fiddle, etc.), but there wasn't time or we were too exhausted by the end of the day. I would truly recommend that you try to take that in. There are quite a few in Glasgow.

The weather was typical for Scotland. It rained every day, but only in intervals. There was fog when we were in the Highlands, adding to their mystique. Except I will tell you that the sun came out when we were in Glen Coe. And lochs, I can't believe how many there are in Scotland! It was great to learn the meaning of terms like Strath, Inver, etc.

As far as the whisky? My first drink was MaCallan and my first toast was to you, Nay! Yeh!!!! Thank you my dear PJ. I have to confess that I tried a few whiskies. My latest favorite is Dalmore*12. Did you try the ones from the far north? Lots of peat and so dark and smoky in flavour. Sean and I both found out very quickly how much stronger the alcohol content is in the UK vs. the US. But that's another story.

Thank you for asking!

PS If I have any relatives left in Scotland, they would be very distant. My Great-Great Grandfather was born in 1832 and was baptized in St. Mary's, which is still standing and is now The Tron theatre in the Merchant City part of Glasgow. I'm so glad you went and so very chuffed that you had fun with your son. Bravo!

That's a bloody great idea, DK. Pam, you could do it below if you want to post some scenery shots or remain anonymous.

Yes we are very fortunate to have had that experience. I certainly would love to go back someday.

PJ, have you had any repurcussions from travelling to the UK with regard to swine flu?

At the end of last week, my employer decided that all staff returning from an overseas trip (professional or personal) are recommended to adhere to a seven day exclusion period.

Another small earthquake today -around 43 miles outside of Dallas.

What is with all the seismic activity here lately?

Another random thing: I'm getting ready to watch "Defiance" with Daniel Craig. Yum.

Donna, storms again? Is this the hurricane season in your area?

You've had such unpredictable weather in the US lately. But as to the seismic happenings, all I can say is:

Have you pressed any 'buttons' you shouldn't have, Tex??? Suspect

Stay safe everyone.

I wonder what happens to all the places underground after oil and natural gas get sucked out. I'm thinking a Jenga tower holding up a bowl of chili, and people keep pulling out Jenga pieces.

My random button isn't working.

I can happily say no. There was a critical case in Glasgow, but I tried not to think about it. We did take precautions, by keeping "Wet Ones" handy and we used a bunch of them, during the trip, but we would've anyway. Only saw a couple of people with masks, but unfortunately, The Phantom wasn't one of them. Laughing

Seriously, anyone can get sick anytime, no matter where we are in this world, so I think that the seven day quarrantine is a bit much, but the people you spoke of are involved with children, so, in that case, it's probably a good thing. I will admit to all that I tend to be OCD, but with the grace of God, I didn't panic once.

I would travel over there, again, in a heartbeat.

Thanks for asking.

So, how many of you kids are going with Nay on her trip?

Oh, and please stay safe, everyone with these storms and earthquake.

PJ, I do tend to think my employer and many others are going a trifle overboard. I suspect that this 'request' will actually disappear also because the flu will have spread exponentially by the time I return from Scotland. There's something in me that thinks, other than normal precautions, there's little that I can do to prevent normal illness and that much of the hype is simply hysteria.

That said, sadly swine flu has struck the state of Victoria in a big way with many schools closed down. We've just had the first of the three matches of State Of Origin (Rugby League) in Melbourne (capital city of Victoria) so that will bring many football fans into contact with the illness and of course they will return to work and their lives.

None of the Pantry kids are travelling with me for various reasons ...
DK has two furry dependents
Dallas has to run the world
Oggs has a French Foreign Legion reunion
Alice is allergic to snails and garlic
Leo won't leave GB to the claws of Jennifer Aniston
and so on .....

But it's all good - I don't have to share my red wine and no-one will interfere with my kilt fun. Laughing

I WANT to go...but there's this thing called LOTS of money I need to travel overseas. I'll be lucky if I can even make the trip to San Diego next month.

Something random: I'm in a good mood this afternoon because I found out Kevin Sorbo is tweeting. Yes, I'm easily amused. At least I'm pretty sure he's the real deal. If not, I'm sure I'll find out. Very Happy

Snails and garlic are the least of my worries...

For the record...I love garlic. I just don't like it when someone can't digest it well, and it reeks through their body.
