| That's the one, with a very young Christian Slater as his novice. Love the movie. Need to get a copy of the book.
Finally succumbed to old age and got a pair of prescription reading glasses when I got a new pair of regular seeing prescription glasses. Can't stand the multifocals and I rarely have activities that require both regular and magnified vision together. The reading pair lives in my Book Seat's pocket on my bed.

| Hi Shar. How are you? Yes, it is a Sean Connery movie with a pubescent Christian Slater. I saw it years ago and can't remember too much of the story but the book is just sublime writing. Maybe I should borrow the movie again.
Should I try "Foucault's Pendulum", Julie? Have you read "The Book Thief"? Since I read it last year, that book has set the benchmark high for me. If I can read a book too quickly, it can't be good. I need to be challenged by the density of a good page/chapter; it has to grab me and hold me. Well-written, clever sentences. Otherwise I just think 'Why bother going any further?' Life's too short to read bad books, drink bad wine, have bad friends, do a bad job or eat bad food.
Did you notice I didn't poke fun at your age/glasses issue, Julie? Do I get any brownie points?

| Don't really care much about my age. Besides, I got TWO new pairs of glasses!! Never read The Book Thief. Let's see...Amazon description says set during WWII. War settings are a huge turn off for me. I think you should try Foucault's Pendulum. I liked what little I read (Fie on that Dan Brown!). I will get back to it. It seems an easier read than The Name of the Rose. Eco published that 5 years after Rose. Now that I can actually read comfortably again, I will. Can't decide if I want a physical copy of Rose or Kindle copy. The physical book would have to be new. I get the icks with used books and library books. Don't know what grossness previous readers left on them. Just because I get through some books really quickly doesn't mean they're bad. If they're books I've waited for I'll rip through those out of excitement on the first read, then slow down next time. I've started reading a few that I felt were stupid, boring, irritating, or downright bad, and those get shoved somewhere, no idea where. What I really enjoy are book series that I can read many volumes in a row. Same with watching a bunch of TV show episodes or movie series back-to-back. The gnat-like TV segments and having a week between episodes make me crazy. Life's too short to do stuff you don't like. I'm so glad I'm done with compulsory schooling. | |

| Julie, the war might be the setting but the heart of the book is a love story with life. It's hard to explain but a young girl (main character) loses everything, loses everything again and finds that she can still live and grow as a person. It was a book that shook me to the core; I'll never forget it.
Two pairs of glasses? Bargain.
I bought my secondhand copy of "The Name of the Rose" on EBay for less than $10. Good condition, no heebie jeebies for me. That said, I just bought a yellowing copy of "Sophie's Choice" which reeked of smoke. That person got some bad feedback I can tell you and I'll be passing it to Lifeline ASAP.
Random:
This morning, after a walk to get the weekend paper, I meandered through some shops downtown with my visitor, had a coffee on the verandah, mowed the lawn and just finished Japanese for lunch. Now it's a toss-up to watch a movie or have a nap. It's a long weekend in Queensland so I'm taking advantage of the blissful feeling of a short holiday.

| After 6 years of fighting Charter, at last my brother finally got high speed internet installed last Friday. My sis in law has a name at Charter and told me to call him. Maybe something can be done. To be honest, I hardly ever even get online anymore. It's frustrating at best. I hope everyone's doing well. I miss being on here. | |

| Hi Donna, it's great to see you. What is Charter? I'm assuming it is an Internet provider. Fingers crossed they can offer you something better. Doesn't your brother live near you?
Random:
The pressures of the last month have just melted away. I think I could really go for a three day weekend every weekend.
Finally pulled out the last of my flood affected lavender bushes. Replaced the large empty plot with 4 Lilly Pilly plants, 4 small lavender shrubs and 2 rosemary bushes. Took the opportunity to fertilise the soil also. Just need to mulch now and that garden bed may be back to normal. It feels so gratifying to inch closer and closer to the finished product.
Out to lunch now with a friend for a gossip session.

| Yes, Charter is the provider I had in my previous residence. They told me I'd have service where I am now, but then after coming out and realizing they'd have to run lines, turned tail and ran. I guess they didn't account for new housing? SMH
Anyway, my brother has a name locally for me to call. Maybe this local can get something done. At any rate, the brother lives 1 mile away but I don't always feel like lugging my laptop over to the brother's house. Let's hope something can be done soon.

| Buy 1 mile's worth of cable and plug it in at your brother's house. I'm surprised new housings, especially groups by developers, don't come wired for all sorts of communications. | |

| Nigella the chef? Only heard of her watching Gordon Ramsey raise animals with his kids and one of them, don't remember if it was a pig or a turkey, was named Nigella, but turned out to be a male. | |

| Of my rib fillet steak? It be gone in my tum, Dallas. Medium with dianne sauce, mustard potatoes, steamed broccoli followed by ... sticky date pudding with caramel sauce and icecream. Today was a lazy day. Breakfast at the beach, walked the shops, drove around coastal roads, then home for a nap. | |

| Sounds Delicious!
It's a pity you can't bottle some of that energy Nay, I could use a gallon or two. After working all week, I just want to watch TV and take naps.
I did go shopping for a bathing suit yesterday--------Lord help anyone who has to see me in it, but I'm not going on a cruise and stay dry. It cost way too much (even on sale) and I look like a pregnant penguin ( black and white , big in the middle, short-white legs and I waddle when I walk ) but hey---I have a new bathing suit.

| Do penguins get pregnant? Is that the term for carrying eggs ready to be fertilized?
Bella, I'm imagining you in those 3-ft long crotch that Justin Bieber wore. THAT would make you look like a penguin. Otherwise you'd look like the Bella I know, scantily clad. Hmm...can't find an emoticon that doesn't make me look like a perv.
I'd like a new bathing suit that I fit INSIDE of.
