| I'm so sorry about your daughter's friend, Helena. Prayers sent up for her. I know how merciless cancer is.
And I'm sorry to hear about the trying week you had recently, Nay. Some days and weeks just sap every last drop out of you.
In reference to the book question: I am reading the Fifty Shades Trilogy. I just got the first book a little over two weeks ago, and I'm already almost finished with the second book and have the third lined up and ready to go. I...am...in....love.....with....them.

| How do they compare with "romance" novels? I've never read those either. Tried, but couldn't get past a couple of sentences.
I'm dessert, too. Ask any mosquito.
No new glasses that I know of. Lost the prescription paper thing from last check up. I hate trying to pick new frames. Can't see what they look like on me. I see 2 non-matching big blurs.

| BDSM to me is something different totally than romance. Some ppl do it to spice up their sex life while others do it to not be in control all the time... And others do it because sometimes thats the only way they can orgasm... Just different...
Romance novels are usually based on heros or heroines that save the day and allow the the damsel in distress to feel love because they were a victim of circumstance. Or teaching both parties to love again and to have faith that there is a man or woman out there just for you... And the majority of the time it has a happy ending... I have yet to see the opposite....
Its an adult fairytale version of Cinderella with lots of hot sex that its the same in every erotic or romance novel... It doesn't phase me anymore... Its the same every time.. lol..

| I like Medievel times... But some of the books are turning out to be the same... I also like a good mystery... Something that has me on my toes... Sex is good in a story but when you have read the same scene over and over...Its tiresome... The majority sex scenes are basically the same... There is nothing different about it.. I have read enough books in a short lifetime than most and I have yet to see something different..
Murder mysteries are different each time... It never gets old... Plus if you pick the correct Author they can make you not want to sleep alone.. That is awesome entertainment.. And a great writer that can cause fear in you...

That is such a lovely and kind wish, Nay. That means a lot to me. Thank you. I know I should stop by more. RL has a way of getting in the way sometimes, unfortunately. And to answer your question, I haven't found it exactly yet. But I've been going through some intellectual, emotional, and spiritual transformations that have been getting me closer. - LegoJulie wrote:

Julie, I find them far superior to the standard romance novel fare. Those books can be fun, and if I'm looking for a little romance and don't want to think too hard, they'll do in a pinch. But those books are like empty calories. The characters tend to be one-dimensional caricatures and they tend to ring false. The Fifty Shades Trilogy actually has an interesting plot and delves far more into the inner psyches of the characters and the psychology behind why they are the way they are (particularly the male protagonist). They are more developed and you actually care about them. It's an intense ride. The books manage to be mind-blowingly erotic, kinky, and wild while at the same time tender, romantic, gentle, loving, and beautiful (especially as the series progresses). I'm hooked. I haven't been this hooked, transported, and mesmerized by anything I've read since I read the Twilight books back in '09 and '10. But I like intense, soul mate type romances that suck you in, run you through the gamut of passionate, uncontrollable emotions and desires, and leave you breathless where you don't know what hit you. LOL! I'll blame my being a Scorpio for that. It's not for everybody, but that's what I like. And I love a good mystery too. I highly recommend a book I just read. Chris Bohjalian's The Night Strangers. It was a good gothic ghost story/mystery and a good character study. Another book of his I read years ago and also liked was Midwives. Not a ghost story, but a drama with a bit of mystery and a good character study also. They made a made-for-TV movie of it years ago starring Sissy Spacek.

| Okaly dokaly, you're obviously all too busy watching the Olympics to chat so I shall raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamble on for a wee while, shall I.
Random:
The beagle fan that I have become wants more pups.
If I had my way (and it wasn't against Council By-Laws & resort my neighbours to murder), I would have an entire pack. We wouldn't hunt of course but we would frolick, sniff, bay and play happily.
Males, females. Older dogs who need a last home. Little puppies who need a big brother/sister. Rehomed.
All welcome in the home of Nay.
Except cats. No cats. Nada. Ever.

| If you're serious about this, why not start a beagle rescue? It would take a lot of time and dedication, but I'm sure there are lots of beagles out there who need a forever home.
Random: My female cat is driving me crazy. I'm on my last leg with her before considering euthanazia. As much as I don't want to do it, I don't know what else to do.

| Believe it or not, DK, I have seriously thought about the idea of a beagle rescue. Other states have them but Queensland doesn't appear to.
They are an adorable breed but unfortunately, as happens ALL too often, people purchase them without researching their active, vocal natures. They need daily walks, firm discipline and oodles of attention. They are not the sort of dog you toss in the backyard of a suburban home and expect to guard and protect without family contact. As a owner, you will receive in return some of the best laughs you'll ever get and affection and personality by the bucketful. The main reason I looked into a second dog was so that Bud had company for his little lonely pack of one. It has worked out beautifully for all three of us.
My only reservation about the idea is that it would require moving from my home to a more rural setting for the size of land needed. I wish I knew someone with significant acreage so my boys could go on wild romps now.
My sympathies about your senior female cat. Her situation must be extreme for you to contemplate that as you are so very attached to them both. Discuss it with your vet if you haven't already done so and take some time to say goodbye. It is actually something I have thought and discussed already and both my boys are happy and healthy. I believe it is better to plan ahead if possible.
Random:
Haven't we seen some surprising swimming results at the Olympics? The young Lithuanian girl shocking everyone and the South African fellow who beat Phelps for gold and then cried through his national anthem.

| I went to PetSmart and bought some soft litter and a smaller, less deep litterbox in the hopes it will curb her from going under the box. I have also taken to putting puppy pads underneath both boxes just in case. It's like I have a kitten again. It isn't just her box habits....she eats and drinks a lot, yet has dropped a lot of weight and doesn't seem to be able to put any more on. She used to be a porker, but now she feels like a feather when I pick her up. Poor thing. The next step will be a visit to the vet, even though I know her temperament there will prevent them from being able to do that much to her. She's like a feral animal any time I take her, which is why I stopped a few years ago (I know, bad me). I'm like you Nay, once the cats pass on, I'll probably get another dog to keep Coco company. The only thing better than one dog is more than one dog! I haven't been watching the Olympics, but I did read today that the US women won gold in gymnastics. Yea!!! | |

| What Olympics? Nay is becoming a beagle-hoarder. DK, kitty may just be really old. Cat organs fail just like ours. Enjoy her company, and be prepared that when you take her to the vet she may not come home with you. I'm now sad remembering when my cats went to the vet for the last time. | |

| I'm crunchy on the outside? I thought I was crunchy on the inside.
Went to Seattle over the weekend. I don't like walking up and down hills, especially up. Messed up my back, hips, knees, feet and toes. After that I sat in a speed boat on a wavy lake. Messed up more of my back. I now understand why they don't want people with bad back or neck on rollercoasters. Plus I missed sunscreen right over my eyebrows so I have 2 red lines there. I'm going to sit or lie still for a few days.
Weather was nice in Seattle. Airports suck. People who don't know how to find their correct airplane seats suck. Humidity in Texas sucks. Airline served free non-alcoholic drinks. No free snacks or food. You can buy (credit or debit cards only) snacks and food on the plane or bring your own. People who take smelly foods onto planes suck. Free TV consisted of ads & ads & ads & ads. You can watch DirecTV for $6 for flights under 3 hours, or $8 for longer domestic flights. Headphones were free. Screaming kids were free. Views outside windows were free. Mount Rainier was very pretty.
One good thing about airports: I didn't get touched, frisked, searched, or sent through x-ray machines. Just waved through with my rugrat. Probably because I had a child with me. Whee! They were not touching the kids or sending them through the machines. I was very happy to see that.
Oh, people who don't get to the airport with enough time to go through check-in lines, security lines, travel to gates, and then cut in line, suck.

| I haven't flown for a while, and I probably won't for a while either. Bad drivers suck too. I still want to visit Alaska someday. But I doubt I can drive there. I want to get a cabin in Alaska and take my dog. We can watch the Northern Lights together. Random: It's still hot outside and we need rain. Is it Autumn yet? | |
