True. I saw Up. Doesn't feel much like a kid's movie at all. Saw District 9. It's not a scifi movie. It's a social/race/prejudice commentary movie. Ick. I am watching Hunt for Red October right now. It's full of men. Sean Connery, Sam Neill, thin Alec Baldwin, Stellan Skarsgard, Scott Glen, James Earl Jones, Richard Jordan, Tim Curry, Fred Thompson, Daniel Davis, Courtney Vance, Jeffrey Jones. I was surprised when Stellan Skarsgard showed up in Mama Mia! and could sing. Of course Tim Curry could sing. He was Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror.

| The movie UP was just plain sad, the story of a man at the end of his life. Admittedly, there was adventure and a happy ending but he lost the love of his life.
I'm not sure I would go so far as to recommend DISTRICT 9 to anyone. That said, I thought it was a brilliant metaphor for the refugee situation that faces my country daily. It was/is also original.
Random:
I used to love winter, the crisp fresh air and the layers of clothes. Now I long for warmer nights. Maybe I'm getting old.

| Not going to get into refugee treatment discussions. It's all politics.
I love winter still. Nay, you are getting old. What you need is a living, breathing bed warmer, like that dog. He could return your love by warming your feet.
As for Up: The first time i caught it I missed the old man's life synopsis so I didn't know why he didn't have kids or grandkids. Then I saw the beginning. I've known many who miscarried so that made me really sad. My kid needed too many explanations of what's going on and she lost interest in the movie pretty fast. Good thing, because the mean dogs would have given her nightmares.

I certainly don't want to get into a political debate, Julie, not purely because we're from different countries. Initially though, I just thought District 9 was an alien/horror movie until I delved deeper and saw the connection. - LegoJulie wrote:

Yesyesyesyes, I may be just getting old. The pup tries to share my bed and tries to actually BE a foot warmer. But then I can't star-fish across the bed, can I? - LegoJulie wrote:

Yes, I thought the same thing with my school aged nephew and niece. Movies should always give us food for thought but not force adults to sit down and give the facts-of-life talk before their time. *shiver*
Random:
Have any of you ever put a wedge of lime or lemon in a Corona beer? That's exactly what Radler's Barefoot beer tastes like. So I am happy to say "I have finally found my beer!"

That's what I thought when I went to see it with some friends but like you, I quickly saw the connection. I saw it in the theaters and I am not normally squeamish but for some reason I had a hard time with some of the scenes. - Quote :

I am not a beer drinker. I made it a goal in college to drink an entire beer once and it took me about a week. But I am glad you found your beer! I don't drink often actually at all--maybe two or three times a year and then it's a White Russian or an Adios MF (a great breakup drink). I am hyper enough without adding alcohol to the mix!

| I'm not a drinker but I do like a Daquiri (banana) when I'm on vacation or if I'm really feeling like I need to let go, just a good ol' Jack and Coke. But just one. Any more than that and I'm wasted and not in a good way.
Andrea, you get more days off then any person I've ever known! Here in the US, it's the 60+ hour work week or your poor. I'm moving to Austria. (I sound like Gerry!)

| I am making the long drive back to my home tonight. I have sprained my foot. I broke this foot two years ago (the perils of dancing) but I don't think it is broken now. I am going to meet the ex who is a massage therapist and see if he can work out the soreness.
Andrea-Enjoy your off days!

Have fun Andrea.
Don't drink so can't comment about the beer, dear Nay.

| Looks like it's not a sprain but a strain. It feels much better with a bit of massage but may be sore for a couple of days.
Hope everyone has a great night. I will because I am at the place that is truly home to me!

LOL! He didn't! And I kept one foot on the floor like my mama told me to do. It's not even sore right now so he did a good job, as usual. If I were a man I would be milking it for a few more days for sympathy. I have a big day at work tomorrow and I haven't been able to sleep like a normal person in days. I'm like the kid who is going to the amusement park the next day and is so excited.

| Nay, you should have a Daiquiri, especially since you spell it better then I do! It's made with fruit and booze. That's all I know. I look at it as a "healthy" fru fru drink! I'm also partial to strawberry ones but you can get them in all the fruit flavors, I think.

Forgot to say something "random". I'm waiting until ten a.m. to buy my Paul McCartney tickets on line! I'm so excited!

| The Queen and I have something very important in common, we're both Corgi lovers! I've only got three and she's got a gazillion and I hear they have their own room in the palace.
That was the right Queen you're referring to wasn't it?
There's a drink that tastes like a chocolate shake I think is called a mud slide. It comes out looking like a sundae with whipped cream, cherry. It has that creme de cacao in it I think. It's pretty good!

| The USA was never a constitutional Monarchy.
I thought Australia is an independent country. Didn't know it's still ruled by England.

| *...Sliding in...right on cue*
Oh, Nay! We were never a constitutional monarchy. And we are not a democracy either (contrary to popular belief). We are a Constitutional Republic. That is why our Pledge of Alligence says: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all".
The founders were specific about wanting to create a constitutional republic, instead of a democracy. It is similar to a democracy in that both elect representatives to pass new laws etc. However, a constitutional republic has a Constitution that limits the power of government, and creates checks and balances between the branches.
As for the Pilgrims, I guess they were religious rebels. Rock on. My peeps settled here long before 1620, so I guess they were just plain rebels.
