| I saw Lady Thatcher's funeral. Dignified, short, and very nationalistic with music from British composers.
How could someone have no regard for other people's lives? Had to explain to kid what happened in Boston. I have no answer for "Why?", just like in all the other acts of evil.
Are they going to ban pressure cookers now?

| Today's paper here tells Part Two of this awful story - their murder of MIT officer, shoot out, escape and death (of one). No theory yet on the why. I was also shocked to hear of the West, Texas tragedy. Imagine going to work and not coming home. Imagine going to watch your father race in a marathon and not coming home. | |

That's the point of terrorism, instilling terror. Death isn't terrible for the one who died. They're dead. It's over. Death is terrible for the living. It's more like imagine going to watch your father race in a marathon and watching your father die, or racing in a marathon and looking over to see your son die. If you imagine things like that, you'd be afraid of everyone and everything and you'd never go anywhere or do anything. When I was in Thailand I've heard people say that if it's not your time to die, you can fall off mountains or get run over, etc. and you'll survive, but if it's your time to die, a nick by a toothpick will kill you. I try to keep that in mind. Everybody dies. Even Jesus died.

| Quite right, Julie. To constantly feel fear would take away a person's quality of life. Maybe breaking a country's collective spirit is the ultimate aim but revenge is also a frequent motive for such attacks. I hope interviewing the younger brother reveals all he knows about their motive. I also pray he is found sane and therefore fit for trial. The spirit in Bostonians has been truly incredible to watch throughout this past week.

| I just realized something (I'm slow sometimes).
The "Big Brother" thing, where governments have eyes and ears everywhere tracking everywhere you go, everything you do, everything you say, is here, and people are doing it to themselves. Cookies on computers don't even come close.
Say hello to your cell phone, always within arms reach, always on, with GPS locator, combined with constant texting, Facebook posting, tweeting, pic sharing, app & song & movie running.
We the sheeple don't need to be forced into accepting government surveillance devices. We bought our own. We report ourselves.
I want my privacy. | |

| Not only is Big Brother constantly aware and able to track our every mood, but for some reason we have become so narcissistic that we think people *care* about where we are and what we are doing at all times!! | |

| I love this picture circulating on Facebook that shows a 19th century painter creating a picture of food. The caption reads, 'Everyone is going to want to know what I ate.'
I don't want to know what anyone ate unless it was really good or really bad!

| Hi, kayanne! How did the wedding go? Did you get to eat anything?
Not only are they posting about what they ate, some show pictures of them eating. They share pictures of themselves eating, drinking, sitting, walking, sleeping, "working", etc. I have not personally seen posts or pictures of people eliminating, but I'm sure there are those who feel the need to do so. The only time I may be interested in such thing is an announcement of a child's first real use of a toilet, and definitely NO PICTURES.

| Hi Sami, Julie and K. How are you, ladies?
This is a great discussion. Thanks, Julie.
Some people simply believe they are the centre of the universe. It's just everyone else who needs to be convinced of this. The media and many 'experts' have convinced society that we are all stars capable of wondrous things in our lifetimes. I can sing ... ergo ... I can win American Idol. I can run fast ... ergo ... Olympic gold is for me. The sooner the message changes, the better. Doing our personal best should be enough, rather than a constant craving to be better than others. My best is not the same as someone else's best but it is good enough for me.
BTW Didn't Facebook start as a data collecting tool for the date-ability of college campus girls? A least that's what I got out of the movie.

| Julie, I did get to eat. Everyone thought my food was great but I am just not a pulled pork person. We served a barbecue style lunch, btw. The day was perfect. I managed to sing both of my songs without breaking down and the weather was beautiful. I could not have asked for more. I am having a problem remembering that my name is not the same and half the time I still write my maiden name or introduce myself by that name.
My Facebook is full of wedding pictures and recipes right now.
Yes, Nay. I remember when an intern I worked with first told me about it. Back then only high school and college kids were using it.
I have made friends on Facebook with people I have never met and I use it to keep up with family that live far away. The best thing about it for me is that my husband and I reconnected through Facebook. I doubt we would have ran into each other otherwise. It's like anything--it has its good and bad sides.

| Sounds like you had a wonderful wedding, kayanne. I wish your marriage goes as well. Except for having pulled pork. Yes, wedding pics! (It's ok if you blur faces.) I know I'm not the best in the world at anything. I know there are things that I'm better at than many, some I'm better at than most. I'm definitely the best wife and mother in my house. I know I'm a better human being than most (if not all) those stupid housewives on those stupid housewives shows. That's more than enough. I never saw the Facebook movie. Don't care. I'm glad people stop trying to get me to use FB. I have an account. I haven't logged into it in a long time, at least a year. Maybe I should check every once in a while to make sure FB isn't adding stuff to my account. But that would involve using FB. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH! | |

| Congratulations Mrs Newly Married K! Not sure what pulled pork is (must be some strange American delicacy) but I'd go with the assumption that your guests liked it. You sang? That is so brave. Photos please! I didn't know you'd re-met your hubby through Facebook.
Julie, you are distinctly best at being yourself. I enjoy you for what and who you are. Can't you delete your Facebook account? Sidney was the sanest member of the M.A.S.H team. RIP.

It is a special day for us Aussies today, diggers and citizens together - ANZAC Day. After breakfast, I'm marching with my students to honour our fallen and returned soldiers. LEST WE FORGET.

| *waves A & NZ flags*
Pulled pork is shredded pork, shredded by using forks to pull the tender cooked meat apart, served mixed or covered in barbecue sauce.
I can delete my FB account. I had two and deleted one already, the one for my Warcraft buddies. But then some people (family) will bug me to get one again. It's simpler to have one and they can see I have one.
The ease of finding personal information about people by hopping from profile to profile is scary.

Nay, are the pups ok? Students? House? You could be subconsciously picking up on something you haven't noticed yet. I hope you don't have snakes in the house. I hear Aussie snakes top the list of world's most poisonous.
