I must have. I seem to get them a lot.
We've had storm systems that just sat on top of us for over a week. We had feet of water. Been there. Wouldn't mind getting that water right now, either. But don't want high winds.

Hello all. I'm back online. Our power was cut in the early hours of last night with wild tornadoes throughout the city and has only been restored 16 hours later. I'm now enjoying a cup of tea and some chicken noodle soup for dinner at 8pm.
I'm so grateful I bought a house in a suburb that is predominantly high ground because some people are in considerably worse positions. As you can imagine houses are without roofs, trees are down everywhere, bridges are under water, roads are blocked etc.
Jordy spent time under the bed because the closed windows were rattling and the rain was thumping the walls. It was not pleasant.

Yup, yup! Glad your house is intact, too.

Nay, glad you are safe. We had severe weather here today. Lots of rain and very strong winds.
(I would give you more details but I don't convert to metric... )

Hahaha! You and your non-linear world, Dallas.
Folks ... members and guests ... Whilst I am safe, dry and have power and food, others mere kilometres away are in the middle of a massive natural disaster zone. Thousands have been displaced and hundreds of homes are lost.
Consequently, I simply do not have the time or inclination to post news and photos on Gerard Butler. School has been delayed for a week, staff are flooded or stranded, whole suburbs have been evacuated and my aim is to help where and when I can. Hopefully you can all understand this.
My deepest thanks for Dallas for continuing her one woman campaign to bring you Butler news.
I will be back when I can. Take care.

sorry i haven't been on here much lately, y'all. been too much craziness in my life lately.
we had bad storms here in atlanta last night. tornados hit west of us and several were hurt, with one death. many people lost everything they had. we were lucky to only have lost power for a couple of hours!

Thanks for your prayers and kind words, Sami and Dani. Stay safe, Sami. I now have a little glimpse into the ferocity of a tornado.
I spent time yesterday at a small local Kindegarten throwing out damaged play resources, shelving and entire cupboards and packing undamaged items for removal to another site. My friend is the Director there and whilst she is receiving assistance from friends and strangers, she is quite shaken by the whole experience. Flood waters were waist height and flowing fast through the Kindy so all furnishings and timber fittings were lost under a layer of putrid smelling silt. It had only been opened for a year since its last refurbishment so everything was brand new including the dishwasher, fridge and electronic whiteboard. Heartbreaking stuff but nothing in comparison to those who have lost their entire worldy possessions. Some homes were split apart into firewood by the force of 75km/hr (40 knots) river water. How do you possibly find anything salvageable in that situation?
Several Black Hawks were deployed earlier in the week to chopper patients from two large hospitals down to Brisbane and the Army rolled in three days ago. It is a mixture of both comforting and frightening to see and hear these vehicles through the city. Fire and Rescue personel from various towns and cities throughout QLD have also worked alongside local SES, Police and volunteers to rescue, clean, transport and feed the thousands displaced by ex-cyclone Oswald. The local government and various church and charity organisations have immobilied the "Mud Army" with a particular focus this weekend on cleaning. The roads south are now open to traffic so fresh food and fuel supplies have arrived.
It is a surreal situation to be in - the north totally wiped out by record river levels, the east inundated by rising water and the south left relatively undamaged with road access, food and minimally interrupted power and communications. We were so lucky.
As with any disaster, the next few months and years will be filled with mountains of hard work. What worries me the most is the illness that will now certainly travel into every corner of this city. Doctors are warning people of super nasty bugs already. Of course, the young, the elderly and frail will be most affected.
On this gorgeous, summer's weekend day, the spirit blowing through our city is palpable. I am so very grateful I live in such a genuine place.

Good wishes and prayers to all who are having a bad time no matter where.
Nay, wash your hands often. Don't touch anything above your neck with your hands unless they're freshly cleaned. Don't expose any cuts or nicks to the filth, and try not get cut in the filth.
On a lighter, perverted note: Who feels like they're a threat to Mother Earth?

Thanks for caring, Julie. Done. Shoes bleached. Clothes washed in disinfectant and steaming hot water and sun dried for a day.
Back to work tomorrow. We've been provided with information on what to say to families, the stages of trauma and how to get children back into learning. Our School counsellor will obviously be in demand too and most staff members are able to work.
It's 'see as we go' mode. I thank God for the gift of a true leader this year.

My kid is still scared of storms because of Hurricane Rita, the one right after Katrina, and that was 7.5 years ago. I know we're all spoiled by modern technology and such, but having to go without cold drinks and ice in the summer, usual foods, snacks, power, air-conditioning, TV, music, lights at night, internet, running water, flush toilets, clean clothes, all the normal everyday taken-for-granted things, ALL AT ONCE, is very traumatizing, and not just for kids. Then there are dangerous animals fleeing the floods.
Be prepared to deal with traumatized kids, and adults, for the next few years. Yes, years.

Our first day went smoothly and leisurely and as expected several children in my class have lost everything. We've talked together, supplied them with new books and uniforms and will go from there. Parents are pleased to have the children back into a normal routine in a safe place.
Julie, so sad that your little girl is still frightened.
For some reason, there is a runny discharge leaking from my eyes when I watch this commercial.

Awwwwwwwwww indeed. I love that one.
It isn't just kids that stay afraid for years after a weather based trauma. I'm one of fearless types when it comes to weather, but let someone say an ice storm is on it's way and my stomach knots.

Sorry it's been a while, but I'm still having a little problem with the Internet. Maybe I should learn smoke signals?

T's a filthy habit!
Random:
Some photos from the disaster zone ... The water has receded to leave phenomenal damage, filth and heartache. Clean up has finished in some smaller areas and others have only just become accessible by road to home owners and helpers. The combined efforts and hard work of SES, Rural Fire and Rescue, Army, volunteers, City Council, church and charity groups has been remarkable but some people and some businesses may never recover. An insidious rumour is spreading that suicide rates are up.
