I really wish I had more time to contribute to your group as well. I feel bad that I don't visit over there as much as I should.

Nay, is that your puppy in that picture?

I can imagine the things you have to do, both of you for your Gman sites and your own lives.

I don't even have a part of a percentage of work with regards to Michael Fassbender, yet I'm already tired this week. One little piece of news after another keeps filing through. As for Gman, it's photo, news, interview subjects, constantly in entertainment news. And then there are the fans...

Sami and DK are true warrior women. I'll bet you both look great in full body 'anti-obsessive fan' armour.

Yes, that's my little fellow Donna. He's practising the look. Laughing

DK, he's not here yet. He'll arrive in 4 weeks. I've bought a travelling cribb, puppy milk and biscuits, collar and lead and a crate for indoors/outdoors. Expensive little blighter already!

Let me just draw a line in the sand here and say he WILL NOT sleep with me and I am not a Mummy *shudder*.

He will be my guard dog grrrr

Congratulations, Nay!

When I got my dog, I gave in the first week and let him cuddle with me in my bed a few times. But I realized a pattern was starting, so I'm trying to break him of getting in my bed. He sleeps in his crate at night.

However, he gets on my bed sometimes when he knows I can't see him. When I come into the room, he knows he's done wrong. It's almost funny.

Em, I'm a little worried that he will have pine for his brothers and sisters initially.

Therefore, I anticipate much whining, heavy sighing and deep sobbing .... and that will be from me 'cause I see sleepless nights in my future.

Over the weekend, I watched 'Emma' for the fourth/fifth time. The story never gets old. Shockingly, Paltrow did a divine job. However, it is usually Northam who captures my eye.

Has anyone else seen it?

I have seen "Emma," Nay. But it was a long time ago. I think I liked it though. I mean, it's Jane Austen. It would be hard not to like it.

I've never liked Gwyneth Paltrow as a person though. She just rubs me the wrong way. But to be fair, whether I like her or not, she's a really good actress who's done some great movies.

BTW, did y'all know the movie "Clueless" is based on "Emma"?

Today, I was sent an email to mark Remembrance Day - an email that gave me pause for thought, serious thought.

The Clean Panty Thread Vol. 1 - Page 25 IrenaSendler

Last year, a 98 year-old lady named Irena Sendler died. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an 'ulterior motive' ... She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews (being German). Irena smuggled infants out in a variety of ways. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the children/infants noises.

Some kids were carried out in potato sacks, others were placed in coffins, some entered a church in the Ghetto which had two entrances. One entrance opened into the Ghetto, the other opened into the Aryan side of Warsaw. They entered the church as Jews and exited as Christians. "`Can you guarantee they will live?'" Irena later recalled the distraught parents asking. But she could only guarantee they would die if they stayed. "In my dreams," she said, "I still hear the cries when they left their parents."

During the time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children/infants. Irena Sendler accomplished her incredible deeds with the active assistance of the church. "I sent most of the children to religious establishments," she recalled. "I knew I could count on the Sisters." Irena also had a remarkable record of cooperation when placing the youngsters: "No one ever refused to take a child from me," she said. The children were given false identities and placed in homes, orphanages and convents. Irena Sendler carefully noted, in coded form, the childrens original names and their new identities.

But the Nazis became aware of Irena's activities, and on October 20, 1943 she was arrested, imprisoned and tortured by the Gestapo, who broke her feet and legs. She ended up in the Pawiak Prison, but no one could break her spirit. Though she was the only one who knew the names and addresses of the families sheltering the Jewish children, she withstood the torture, that crippled her for life, refusing to betray either her associates or any of the Jewish children in hiding. Sentenced to death, Irena was saved at the last minute when Zegota members bribed one of the Gestapo agents to halt the execution. She escaped from prison but for the rest of the war she was pursued by the Nazis.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the children she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in a back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived so the family could be reunited. Most had been gassed. Those children she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted. The children had known her only by her code name Jolanta.

Irena Sendler did not think of herself as a hero. She claimed no credit for her actions. "I could have done more," she said. "This regret will follow me to my death." She has been honored by international Jewish organizations - in 1965 she accorded the title of Righteous Among the Nations by the Yad Vashem organization in Jerusalem and in 1991 she was made an honorary citizen of Israel. Irena Sendler was awarded Poland's highest distinction, the Order of White Eagle, in Warsaw Monday Nov. 10, 2003, and she was announced as the 2003 winner of the Jan Karski award for Valor and Courage. She has officially been designated a national hero in Poland and schools are named in her honor. Annual Irena Sendler days are celebrated throughout Europe and the United States.

In 2007, she was nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. At a special session in Poland's upper house of Parliament, President Lech Kaczynski announced the unanimous resolution to honor Irena Sendler for rescuing "the most defenseless victims of the Nazi ideology: the Jewish children." He referred to her as a "great heroine who can be justly named for the Nobel Peace Prize. She deserves great respect from our whole nation." Instead, Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming!

This year, another famous male won. Can he, in any way, compare to this lion-hearted, heroic woman? Irena Sendler makes my life and existence small by comparison.
