Do you need me to send the rental husband to you, Sami?
Well, it's 1pm and the heat index is already 100F. I drug out the portable AC unit I was using last year and hooked that up to try to help alleviate things. It's 81F in my house right now. I guess that's not too bad, considering.

A/Cs can only keep your house about 15-20 degrees lower than outside temperature at best. If it's 100F out, the inside would be 80-85F. Portable can help spot cool you. The other really important function of A/Cs is keeping humidity out. 80F with humidity is horribly warm compared to dry 80F.
We've been hitting 100F here lately. Very annoying since it's only the beginning of June.

If the heat doesn't get you the cicadas will. Much better to stay inside read or watch old movies and drink iced tea.

Memorial service and the play, Sami? I'm sorry. I must have missed that story.
Donna, you are right about the whole "when it rains, it pours" thing. My best friend's husband was just recounting for me yesterday all the damage done to his car. First, his wife (my BFF) backed his car out of the garage of a house they were viewing, not thinking about the bike rack on top. That did some damage. Then, we had a hailstorm not long ago that left a ton of dents on his hood, etc. Finally, he was driving on the interstate and a "rogue" tire from another vehicle flew back at his car and took off his side mirror. He thought it was from a stranger's car at first. I think it turned out to be his stepdad's, who was travelling with him, but in another car. It's crazy how life can be sometimes.
I think you have the right attitude though. Just pick the low hanging fruit each day. Like when you planned to just focus on the closet. I get overwhelmed when I have a ton of stuff on my plate too. Sometimes, you just have to do one thing and then be cool with that for the rest of the day. Slowly but surely, you'll make progress.
On another note, I had a cavity filled today. I would just like to say how much I want to marry the "laughing gas" I was given to relax me.

You didn't miss anything, Emily.....I hadn't mentioned it before.
Our family lost a good friend.....he was the pastor of my youth, and who baptized me. The memorial service was Saturday afternoon.
My family has season tickets to The Aurora Theatre....we see all the plays each season. Our tickets to the last play this spring were for Saturday afternoon. Luckily we were able to change them to Saturday nite!
As you can see, tho, our whole Saturday was pretty much taken up with those two activities! I'm actually looking forward to having a LAZY weekend this coming one. (fingers crossed!)

I'm sorry to hear about your pastor, Sami.
Season theatre tickets sound great.
And I know what you mean about looking forward to a lazy weekend. That sounds heavenly.

An adult movie + an adult refreshment, Sami? Sounds like you and Emily both deserve those.
I remember hearing about the mental decline and eventual death of the country doctor who delivered me and my siblings. It's both the end of an era and a reminder of your own mortality at the same time. These inspiring people often have no idea of how many lives they have affected (and improved) over the course of their work. If only they did.

This friend of ours that passed was one of those that touched soooo many lives. HUNDREDS were at the memorial service. He was one of the few people I actually know who walked the talk.

I'm sorry to hear that Sami. I heard a wise preacher once say that that the only ones who mourn the death of a saint of God are the ones left behind. When a soul goes to heaven, as much as I miss that person here on earth, I'd never wish them back because they have gone onto their reward, and they have it so much better than the rest of us here.
Speaking of adult refreshment (I know, kind of sacriligious given my previous statements) ....anyone here a bourbon conosseuir? A friend at work told me about Red Stag. It's Jim Beam bourbon laced with black cherry flavoring, and it's delicious! Drink responsibly though, because it has a kick and because it's so flavorful you can easily overdo it if you're not careful. Bourbon is a Southern drink...maybe Sharabella knows something about it, or one of our other Southern belles...

I'll have to give Red Stag a try, DK. Thanks for the tip.
Brother Fred's son told us at the memorial service that towards the end of his life they told him that the end was near. He got a huge smile on his face and said "I know! Isn't it wonderful?" He was looking forward to meeting his GOD.

I haven't tried that one. I will. Around here the Bourbon drinkers generally stick with Jack Daniels Black. (or they make their own liquid --um--party fuel, after all, this IS Kentucky )

Such a big man in many ways. I love what Springsteen said about him, Sami.
Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.

That was a beautiful sentiment from Bruce. The E Street Band won't be the same without him.
RIP, Clarence.
Kevin Steincross, a local newscaster from Fox2News, posted this picture with Clarence on his Facebook earlier.
BTW, if Kevin looks familiar, he's the same one who interviewed Gerry for Nims Island, the interview where Gerry said one of his favorite things to do was to have sex. Kevin gets to interview and hobnob with a lot of people. Lucky guy.

You're welcome!
I'm in the middle of doing a bunch of things outdoors for my house, and to be honest it's getting frustrating because I only have so many days off and it's been raining off and on like crazy. Well, I had a window today and decided to get started. My "rental man" didn't show up or call, which doesn't surprise me given it's Father's Day, but I decided I'm just going to go in feet first anyway, come what may.
I removed skirting from my front porch, cleaned underneath and prepped it for staining. Then my mom and dad called and said they were in the area visiting my older brother and could they come by. I said "sure, but could you please bring over the power washer?" Anyway, they came by for just a bit before they had to go home, but not before Dad fixed my outdoor faucet that was loose. Dads...gotta love 'em.
At any rate, I didn't get everything done I wanted to do but I got quite a bit. The next step (hopefully if it doesn't rain tomorrow) is to at least get one deck stained proper. Which got me to thinking earlier today.....
Maybe I'm in the wrong career. I mean, I like my job and everything but I sit at a desk all day and get all stressed out working for someone else and meeting someone else's deadlines. I want to go back to school, in fact I plan on it. BUT maybe, just maybe I need to consider going into more of a technical field (i.e. HVAC, electrical wiring, etc.). Just think of all the people, women in particular, who are in the same shoes as I - independent, maybe don't have a lot of money, yet needing just a little bit of help to get things done around the house. I could learn all that stuff, not only for myself but I could go into business doing all this sort of "handyman" stuff for other people. Maybe I could even hire mostly women and cater to a female clientele who won't mind it so much if a woman repairperson shows up at their house when they're folding their underwear.
I dunno, it was just a thought....I've never heard anyone talk about this sort of thing before....

Well, my friend still hasn't called to let me know if/when he's going to show up. I hate having to rely on other people and their charity to get my work done. I'm doing what I can, though.
On Sunday I removed the skirting from around the front deck and cleaned underneath. Yesterday I mowed the grass and stained the front deck. Today I went back and touched up the front deck, as well as crawling underneath said deck to stain the posts. Then I went back out after the rain to remove the lattice from the back deck to begin to get it prepped. I had a bunch of mini trees and weeds under there, so I had to saw and cut those out. I just came in because I was running out of daylight (and energy), but now I have to spray weed killer under there and powerwash it to prep it for staining.
My main thing is I have a bunch of crap I can't get rid of....yard trimmings, etc. If my friend isn't going to come take it for me like he said he would, then I'm going to have to call someone to come out and see what they'll charge to haul it off. I realize he's busy, but I'm getting tired of waiting.
Plus there's still the matter of the AC needing looked at and that water damaged panel needing fixed. And the caulking. And the painting of the shed.
I'm never gonna get it all done at this rate, especially since it rains like 60-70% of the time. I need a good 3-4 dry days, but I'm lucky if I can get 24 hours.
