Yale Band marches onto the silver screen

Some Yale musicians are about to get their big Hollywood break.

Starting today, about 50 Yale Bands members will perform as extras alongside Golden Globe-winning actress Jennifer Aniston in her upcoming movie, “Bounty Hunter.” During the shoot — which will take place from June 15 to 18 in Brooklyn — students will march while playing their instruments as part of the film’s opening scene.

While most students will be playing their own instruments, some will be filling in on other instruments specifically requested by the music producer. The students will record a march on the first day of shooting that will be included in the movie’s soundtrack; the visuals will be filmed separately.

The opportunity comes with an early wake-up call: The students will report for duty at 6:00 a.m. Monday, with a bus leaving from New Haven at 4:00 a.m. The shoots are expected to go all day and into the night until light fades. (They’ll be compensated, though. A $400 stipend, hotel room, food and drink…)

YPMB drum major Kate Kraft ’10 said Eli musicians were also recruited for a role in an upcoming Universal Pictures film alongside Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin.

“Bounty Hunter” will be released on Christmas Day.
