| Hi there....
Just watched Dear Frankie -- had been a while since I had
seen it --and (this is my Favorite of all his films --
always has been ) but for 1st time I watched my dvd with
the closed captioning/for hard of hearing -- on --- duh ???
and I was really struck even more on how beautiful this
film is --- sorry to gush ... oh what the hell...
It just hit me -- what would this film be like if I were deaf --
-- like Frankie -- (this film is sooo cool and dear on so many
levels -- least I think it is --- I just wondered how people in
the deaf community would feel about it ??) --
sorry to babble -- but for me this film and everyone in it
especially Gerry - is like a beautiful, ride for your senses --
especially for the eyes & ears -- with all the beautiful
scenery of Scotland, the lovely soundtrack, the quiet but
sensitive story, all the lovely accents -- particularly Gerry's,
and all the facial expressions and emotions -- that as
Gerry said -- "Suck You In ." So it hit me - what would it
be like to watch this if I was deaf - or to listen to it if I was blind ...
y'all know what it's like to listen to him talk -- everyone -- for
that matter in the film -- beautiful accents -- but
then to not be able to see all those facial expressions, interactions
of his and Lizzy, Frankie, etc....
alright ---sorry to be so heavy on the gush & drama --
but on the other hand -- it feels kinda cool - for me - to
still get that evoked by this film even though I've had it for 2 years - but that is what art is all about isn't it ???
I wish DF could be re-released on big screen again -- it's like this lovely little well-kept secret...
(which I never saw at theatres - to begin with -- only on dvd)
anybody else -- feel this way ??

| I, too, think it's a beautiful move, Tee. I got hooked on Phantom, but, got "sucked in", like you said, by Dear Frankie. There is something very special about this film. There's nothing pretentious about it. It's a wonderful story, told by some very talented actors.
You know, I think I'll watch Dear Frankie tonight!
Thanks for starting this thread, Tee.

| Also nice to meet you, too, Tee. I belong to Gals, but don't post very much there. I mainly go there to get the latest on GB. I also belong to gbdotnet, but don't post there, very much either. I used to, when I first joined dotnet in December , 2007. I'm crazy about this site, though. What a nice group, here! And even at my age, it's quite an education!
Cheers, PJ | |

| Hee hee -- Lady Emily "Mortimer" Nola.... Ooo Leo --- me too !! on the sad/haunted look in the Stranger's eyes --- (man I would love to know/hear Gerry's thougths in more detail about --- how that role --related/paralled with his own expericenes -- with his Dad & himself -- I remember reading/hearing an interview from a while back on -- him discussing how well -- he knew how Frankie must have felt - (and how G did feel -- upon finally re-meeting/syncing with his own Father etc...)and it does make one crave to know what hurts/scars the Stranger had been through from his past -- that he was guarding himself from & yet he realized/ask & found out that Lizzie -- was running/ hiding and protecting herself -- from hurt/scaring herself and was having trouble trusting too -- reminds me of the line -- where Stranger says --- "ive go basssniss their (at the que) -- trrrust me..... ya have to trrust someone --sometieeem " damn -- he curls my toes when he rollllll those rrrr's sooo sexy... and another line -- that really melts my butter... hee hee is right after he hands Frankie - the book on sea life.... (and Frankie is so ecstatic) -- and asks his Mum -- "how did he know ??" --- ooooo -- I just love -- how the Stranger -- gives out this sexy but light little growl --- "I rrrread it -- in your letterrrrs" that really rattles my cage --- just like in the Phantom when Erik says to Emmy in the Lair -- "Come We must rrreturn" --- ooo snap !!! -- Come.... is right ---- LOL !!! have mercy -- "yes Erik -- your wish is my desire" --- says -- Tee (under her breath) --- hee hee now --- changing tangents -- here DK -- ya got a point -- sometimes -- those hauntingly sad looks can really be repressed gas -- in deguise -- LOL -- It could happen !!!@#$ -- Hey PJ -- same here -- I am a member (in lurk mode now) of GALS & also the .net one -- but really just for the scoops on G -- and DK -- You really make folks feel at home here & free & comfy to express -- things the way we really want to -- and even though it may not be huge sight -- so far -- there is a great group of people here already and the fact that we're smaller -- has a real homey, and more intimate feel -- like ladies night out sorta... It's nice meeting everyone -- warm friendly people from former sights & Shout Outs -- to the people -- I haven't met before too !! | |

| This is in my top three of gb movies. So touching and real, the interaction between Frankie and the Stranger. And his reaction to the cause of Frankies deafness. That's a true kick in his gut, you can't act his hurt and deep sadness, that's real emotion. That's what makes him the sexiest chameleon alive. | |

Hey -- Beguild ! -- How are you ?? Very well said -- is like a kick in the gut -- watching -- the emotions across G's face !!-- I get the feeling -- Gerry was no "Stranger" to the feelings that Frankie was going through.. and I couldn't agree with ya more --- A Man that can & isn't afraid to show his emotions -- is sooo sexy & appealing !! and he is quite -- the chameleon -- to the way he morphs -- his looks/roles ... Nice to me ya ! Tee

| Okay, I have a confession to make. My ex and I got this movie a while back and I fell asleep before GB came on the scene. It took me a while to get back to it because I just added a ton of movie channels to my dish and I was catching up on some great flicks I had missed.
Okay, I have finally watched it all the way through without distractions. It is a great film. What happened to that Gerard Butler?

| I found what you had to say about Dear Frankie very interesting. Seeing as how the whole story revolves around a deaf boy, the points you made about how the film could be perceive by the deaf community made me think. This film, while being one of my favourite films, is such a gem. I only discovered it while channel surfing one night. I had only just heard of Gerry after seeing him in Phantom. I had no idea of who he was. Dear Frankie is such a gentle story and whenever it's on (satellite TV here in the UK tends to show it quite often), I try and make time to watch it if I can; although I have it and most of his other films on DVD. Although his character, The Stranger, doesn't say that much in the film, you are very much aware of his prescence in the film. In fact, the whole cast are brilliant - Lizzie's mother really makes me laugh. | |
