FROM THERMOPYLAE TO STIRLING... 300’S GERARD BUTLER SET TO PLAY WILLIAM WALLACE

HOLLYWOOD Scot Gerard Butler is being lined up for a blockbuster television mini-series version of Braveheart.


The Paisley-born actor is top of a wish-list to star in STV Productions’ project to reinvent the 1995 Oscar-winning Mel Gibson film.

The production arm of STV is developing a £13million historical drama based on the life of William Wallace .


The company is working with LA-based production company Creative Media and Nine/8 Entertainment, with the Hollywood-based Scot Mick Davis writing the script.

Simply titled Wallace, the series will draw on the success of Spartacus and Game of Thrones and will include the freedom fighter’s battles with King Edward and his relationship with Robert the Bruce. A deal that has attracted investment from Creative Scotland will fund a fully scripted pilot plus future story outlines.


STV’s director of content, Alan Clements, said: “My mission is to set it in Scotland with a Scottish lead. The film that this series owes more to is not Braveheart but 300, the Spartan movie starring Butler. It is just a terrific idea.

“It is fortuitous this is happening as Scotland is on the cusp of voting on independence.

“Nobody can own Scottish history and certainly no political party could own Scottish history. Wallace is a hero to every Scot.”

He added: “If you are a fan of 300, you could certainly see Gerard Butler doing it, or Kevin McKidd, who was in Rome. Dougray Scot, too.

“We are creating a drama based on a great historical character. Put it this way – Wallace is not going to lose at the battle of Stirling Bridge.”

In the movie Wallace slept with the Princess of Wales while the Prince of Wales was still living.

Hum----I wonder if they mean regular TV, or one of the premium channels like HBO or Showtime? Big difference in quality.

For his bad back:
In clothed scenes he could wear a back brace.
He should take non-narcotic, non-steroidal pain pills.
He needs to do exercises that strenghten core muscles and back muscles.
He should let the girls be on top in sex scenes. That way they could pile back supports under him.
He should pass on the role and let someone younger, i.e. actually Wallace's age before he died, take the role.

Mel's age was a huge distraction for me watching Braveheart. All those age lines and leathery skin. So not young adult.
