He's been making the most of his downtime in Sydney mingling with the tanned and beautiful on Bondi, enjoying popular bars and dabbling in a spot of surfing.

And A-lister Gerard Butler summed up the highlights of his latest stint Down Under in just two words emblazoned across his T-Shirt as jetted back to Los Angeles Thursday.

The 44-year-old star, who has just wrapped filming his latest movie Gods of Egypt, paraded the words 'Apres Surf' across his broad chest as he arrived at Sydney airport.

Dressed casually in a sky blue top, jeans and baseball cap, the Scottish-born actor greeted fans who tore after him for autographs as he negotiated his way through the airport.

Appearing considerably toned, the result of gruelling gym work-outs for his latest role as Set, god of desert storms and foreigners in ancient Egypt, Gerard weaved his way through the morning crowds.

The actor has been embracing the role of villain Set in the $150 million dollar action fantasy flick for which he has donned full gladiator garb.

When he hasn't been busy filming, he embraced the best of Sydney, lunching with pals at North Bondi Fish restaurant and wandering the sandy shores peppered with scantily-clad beauties.

The film, due for release until February 2016 and directed by I, Robot's Alex Proyas, recounts the story of a common thief who joins a mythical god on a quest through Egypt.

He was also rumoured to play Bodhi in the new Point Break remake, and thought to be simultaneously filming scenes for that movie in Australia.

Last month big wave surfer Jamie Mitchell revealed that Australia was definitely a location of interest to the film’s production crew.

'Australia was 100 per cent on their radar,' he told the MailOnline.

'The Gold Coast is the location producers are looking at because of the water tank facilities at Village Roadshow studios,' said a prominent Australian director who did not wish to be named.
