Butler 'Held Back' By Good Looks Scottish actor GERARD BUTLER is convinced his acting career has been hindered by his good looks. The 300 star found success in Hollywood starring alongside Angelina Jolie in 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life and Hilary Swank in new movie P.S. I Love You, but remains less well known in his native Britain. And he insists being attractive disadvantaged him in the U.K. film industry. He says, "It holds you back in Britain more than the U.S. In Britain if you look like a cross between a pig and a packet of biscuits you're more likely to get a job. "But most of the f**ked up women I know are the beautiful ones. Often being good-looking causes you to think about being good-looking a little too much."

He's said a lot in that little quip. Wonder if he remembers it.

True or not, I just love the "I'm too sexy for my work" defence. How can you take anyone seriously?

Yeah. Personally I love Gerry s acting, but being handsome hasn't stopped Sean Bean (voted sexiest man in Britain), Clive Owen or Timothy Dalton from getting work. I think Gerry had his sights more for Hollywood, though there's nothing wrong with that. His theory may be more true for women. Both Jane Seymore and Joan Collins had a hard time because they were deemed too exotic looking, not the typical wholesome English roses. They have been more successful getting jobs in the USA.

On the quote about "f **ked up"beautiful women. He must have dated enough models or media personalities by now to know that their looks are their bread and butter! Therefore they are going to be a little more concerned about appearance than most people.
