Good grief, when is winter leaving you all alone?
Yesterday, Autumn officially arrived in Australia. But you try and tell Summer to rack off! I'm optimistically anticipating some cooler, snuggling weather soon.

I'm depressed. I need something to look forward to...a job offer, a trip, a social outing...SOMETHING.
I'm trying to stay upbeat, but it's getting harder and harder to do so. Every utility bill that comes in gets more and more expensive every month, and I can't even get an interview for any kind of job, despite my qualifications. I try not to think about it, but I'm scared. What am I going to do if I don't get employment within the next month?
I feel so cut off from everyone and everything. The highlight of my day was going to buy gas and then to buy my brother a birthday card at Walgreens. Other than that, I'm sitting here at home because I'm afraid to go out and spend any money.
I guess this should have gone under rants.

Best thing for depression ----exercise. It also gives you something to look forward to, i.e. a goal.
You don't have to belong to a gym or spend money. Just bundle up (if it's still cold outside) and head out for 30 minutes. Walk hills and at a fast pace. You'll sweat your ass off, literally.
I promise you will feel better. Why not start a new health regimen while you have the time? Give it 2 weeks and you'll find it gives you energy too.

Donna, I have to totally agree with Tex - Yes, I know it's unusual - that being active is a great way to feel better about yourself, physically and emotionally. Even volunteer work at a seniors home or library will allow you to mingle with people and feel useful.
That has to be better for you than staying at home, waiting. The connections you may make there will open you up to lovely conversations and possible employment opportunities.

If the weather would ever get warm enough, I would like to take my bike out and ride it. It has been bitterly cold here these past few days, though. I think (I'm hoping) the worst is over for good, as we're approaching mid-March. There's only 18 more days until Spring, and I'm certainly looking forward to warmer temperatures. By Thursday, they're calling for upper 60F temps into the weekend and even into next week, mid 50's. My furnace needs a break!

DK, I know it sucks when you feel like you have nothing to look forward to but the same four walls. I have a history of depression myself, so I know how that feeling just makes you feel like crap. I agree getting out of the house, whether it be for exercise or window shopping (which is free) or whatever might do you wonders. Sometimes when I have been cooped up in the house for too long, my depression only worsens, so it might help to just be around people. Maybe interacting w/ people in a volunteer job like Nay said, or, if you don't feel like talking to people, just chilling out with a latte at Barnes & Noble is a relaxing thing to do. You can read books and magazines without having to buy them, and you get to be around other people without having to make conversation with them, and you get out of the house.
I know life seems pretty yucky right now, but the old saying really is true..."This too shall pass." Something better will come along, and you will totally understand why you had to go through this bleak period first. Either that, or the something better that comes along will make you forget the rough times now. Hang in there! We're rootin' for ya!
*HUGS*

A Texan dies and goes to hell. While down there the devil notices that the Texan is not suffering like the rest He checks the gauges and sees that it's 100 degrees and about 80% humidity. So he goes over to the Texan and asks why he's so happy. The Texan says, "I really like it here. The temperature is just like Dallas in June."
The devil isn't happy with the Texan's answer and decides to fix him, so he goes over and turns up the thermostat to 120 degrees and the humidity to 90%. After turning everything up he goes looking for the Texan. He finds him standing around unbuttoning his shirt, just as happy as can be. The devil quizzes the Texan again as to why he's so happy. The Texan says, "This is even better. It's like Houston in July."
The devil, now really upset, decides to make the Texan really understand that hell is no paradise. He walks over to the controls and turns the heat up to 140 degrees and the humidity to 100%. "Now let's see what the Texan is up to," he thinks. So he goes looking for the Texan. The devil finds the Texan taking his shirt off basking in the heat, even happier than before. The devil can't figure it out. He asks the Texan why he's happy now. The Texan replies, "This is great, it's just like Brownsville in August."
The devil says, "That's it, I'll get this guy." He walks over and turns the temperature down to a freezing 25 degrees below zero. "Now let's see what the Texan has to say about this," the devil thinks to himself. He looks around and finds the Texan jumping up and down for joy. "What are you so happy about now," asks the devil. Still excited, the Texan replies, "The Rangers have finally won the World Series!"

They play netball right?
Only kidding. I actually think they were playing in Texas when I saw a ball game on my cross-US trip in '93.
