| I know he isn't an American, but he lives here and should know better. You ALWAYS take your hat off for the National Anthem - even if you don't sing - and stand out of respect for the Anthem and the game. It's kind of like stopping and taking your hat off when a funeral procession drives by. Gosh, how I love how men stop and do that out of respect. I have even seen men get out of their cars (when all the cars pull over for a funeral procession) and take their hats off and stand out of respect. Class all the way. | |

| Maybe he's afraid he'll get rained on. I hope he removed it during the 7th inning stretch, because the announcer actually requested that people do so. It shouldn't have to be told, it should be a given. But I guess people just don't have the manners they used to in the "old" days. Someone mentioned something somewhere before about Gerry not caring for baseball. So why is he at the game? Probably got a free ticket or something. - Dallas wrote:

He makes enough money here. It wouldn't hurt to show a little bit of patriotism.

I'm not watching it myself either.

And yeah, I doubt he paid for the ticket. He better have taken off his hat during the seven inning stretch during the singing of "God Bless America" - especially when requested to do so - or he deserves a kick in the mooseknuckle. BTW - You're just asking for an ass kicking if you don't remove your hat at the Texas Rangers games. And since they also play the Cotton-Eyed Joe - there's appropriate music for that ass kicking. *Sigh* God Bless Texas. Or perhaps one should just read our motto - "Don't Mess with Texas".
Do you hear that, Mr. Butler? Lucky for you the World Series isn't being played in the Lone Star State. That hat would be ripped from your head. Show a little respect for your adopted country.

The tradition of playing "God Bless America" during the seven inning stretch started after 9-11, after all. You would think of all places, New York, would really be moved by the significance of it.

| Was the game during the day? I always stand for our national anthem and pull my car over when I see a funeral procession.
Tsk, tsk Senor B. It's these little things that people remember.

| People have better manners in the South (of the US). Those of us who live in the South are spoiled by politeness and others elsewhere seem crass to us. | |

| I'm from the midwest and see a bit of both, but mostly politeness. I think it all goes back to how you were raised...no matter where you're from and how you use the example from home, as an adult.
I'd like to give Mr. Butler the benefit of the doubt and say he just "plum forgot"!
