Chicago will be the home of a new trade show next year, the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, a welcome bit of news for a city that has seen its share of the large-scale trade-show business decline in recent years.

Reed Exhibitions has seen rapid growth at its New York Comic Con, to 67,000 attendees in 2008, from 33,000 when it launched in 2006. And the behemoth show organizer is hoping for a strong start in Chicago, when it debuts April 16-18, 2010, at McCormick Place's Lakeside Center.

"We intend for it to be a major attraction right out of the gate," said Lance Fensterman, show manager in New York who will oversee Chicago as well.

The show will feature "artists, creators and celebrities from Hollywood, TV, comics, books, video games, toys, Anime, Manga and all other applicable aspects of the popular arts," Fensterman said. "But most importantly, we will also seek to make adjustments so that our show reflects the essence of Chicago."

I've never been to one of these, but, at least I can finally meet some of you! Chicago is just a hour train ride away from where I live.

It's been quite a number of years since I visited there myself. I have relatives in Cicero, too (it's a suburb of Chicago).

It's a wonderful city, and I've wanted to go back for quite some time. I could take the train or drive, it's not that far. Hmmm, I wonder if we could get into the Oprah show? Smile
