Interview with Gerard Butler in Dubai

By Nilo HaqMarch 29, 2015

Eye candy Gerard Butler is the new ambassador for Boss Bottled – a truly masculine fragrance for men. Gerard was in Dubai for the launch of the fragrance so I got an exclusive opportunity to sit down with him for a 1-1 interview at the Fashion Lounge in Dubai Mall to talk about his favorite scents, his new movie and what makes him the Man of Today.

Firstly welcome to Dubai! How is Dubai? What do you like about Dubai most?

Thank you! Well the best part of Dubai are the definitely the people! I find the people here to be really warm and friendly. They are really hospitable and know how to welcome guests. They really get excited that you are here in a genuine way. I love how the people here are very nice and warm and I really dig that in a city because every city has different levels of excitement and hospitality and Dubai has to be one of the best.

How does it feel to be associated with BOSS Bottled as their ambassador?

It feels great, I feel very proud and honored to be asked by Hugo Boss especially because they have such a high standard to what the man of today represents. So the fact that they asked me feels really great! I’ve always liked the Hugo Boss brand, I’ve worn their fragrances before. Hugo Boss is a very powerful brand that represents confidence and masculinity and this new idea of the man of today goes even beyond that. I really like the notions behind the campaign it’s very inspiring and thought provoking. The fact that it was trying to do something bigger than just a fragrance itself, to define masculinity, to inspire men to think about where they are today in the world and I thought it was very elegant and cool.

What makes you the Man of Today?

I identify with the brand, as in who I am. I’m very confident, and I’ve worked hard to really pushed myself forward to a lot of success in my career. I like to live life in the moment which is very important for the Man of Today. It’s important to be passionate, to be in touch with his emotional side. I’ve also played these roles that represent masculinity.

The world goes gaga when Gerard Butler takes stage. What suggestions can you give men to be more charming and suave without coming off as trying too hard?

Good question! Probably don’t try too hard. I think a lot of the work goes with staying relaxed and interested. If you’re really interested in somebody and you stay engaged the focus goes off of yourself and you don’t have to worry if your confident or not because you are just being. Be sincere but honest and don’t try too hard and don’t really worry about impressing. It’s just engage and have no end goal to what’s going on.

Gerard-Butler-1How important is it for a man to smell good? Do you think scents add to how attractive a person is perceived?

Definitely. When you put on a scent that you like and identify with it makes a world of a difference to how confident how sexy and how fresh you feel. And I think it also has that effect on the rest of the world. For me, it tells me more about somebody and I connect more with them when you have their scent, I know it sounds strange but it’s so true.

Personally, do you prefer musky scents or citrusy scents for a date? Do you think it is essential for a man to own a variety of scents for different occasions or stick to a signature scent?

For a date I use both. I love a musky scent because I find that it’s very powerful, masculine and sexy. But recently I’ve used a particular citrusy scent because it feels fresh and sometimes feels more subtle. You draw somebody in a little more then here I am! It’s like come find me. So I use both and I think you should have a variety of scents but its always good to have a signature scent that is your go-to and makes you feel good immediately.

After your hit film Olympus has Fallen, you are now shooting for the followup – London has Fallen. What can the fans expect from this action-packed film?

I’m in the middle of shooting London has Fallen right now, so I can’t talk to much about it. We just finished in London, we were filming in India and now we are off to Bulgaria. So it’s definitely been all over the place. One thing I will say, is that I’m very excited about it. The script is fantastic, it’s even better and way bigger then the first. It’s more tense, scary and also has a hell of a lot of humor in it as well. If you can put all those things in together, I feel we are doing that. We have a great cast we have Morgan Freeman again, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo and a couple of newbies in there when I looked down at the cast we have I was just really blown away that we have all that together.

Amongst the sea of luxury fragrances in the market today, what makes BOSS bottled stand out?

I can only speak about what I feel about the fragrance and I’ve always enjoyed this fragrance. I’ve come to know it more through this campaign and I like and appreciate it all the more. What I think makes it stand out is the whole social aspect Hugo Boss has put behind this. It’s not just engaging somebody with a perfume because yeah a perfume smells nice but what is the thought behind it to appreciate what it does mean and what it means in your life and what life means. And this is what I find fascinating about this campaign is that it inspires and provokes and makes men think where are they today as compared to 20 years ago when this first came out.
