One Week Later

His long lean body is draped on his berth.....his face a tapestry of mystery....

He can hear the steady breathing of his ship mates surround him....but his mind is a jumble.

Staring up at the ceiling, he can't forget that night...

The sound of the sea would always calm him. Why does it fail to now?

Was it because her eyes haunted him? Or... that her kiss healed a scar in his soul?

Or was it something else? Hearing a sound he hadn't heard in a very long time.

The sound of his heart beating again.

Six Months Later


Walking up the steps to their flat, her heart is thumping twice as fast today. All day long, she was happy....even giddy.

Mari would grin at her demeanor with the regulars standing in line.

"What's gotten into you, Lizzie? "

LIZZIE: (shrug) "Nothing!"

MARI: (wink) "Must be because your baby's graduating in a week."

More giggles.

Opening the door, she finds her mum waiting for her in the living room, pale as a ghost.

Her heart lurches as she grabs her hand. "What is it, mum?"

She searches her eyes, waiting for her to answer.

Finally...

"It's him! He's come back!"

Lizzie's heart skips a beat, already knowing....

She takes a deep breath and murmurs, "Who?"

She watches her mum glance towards the direction of the kitchen before she whispers....

"Ryan."
