Gerard Butler to return to Hollywood South for new Millennium Studios project
Millennium Films has confirmed their next major project will be an action thriller set in the White House, and bring Gerard Butler back to Hollywood South for his next movie.
Gerard Butler is already signed on for the lead role in "Olympus Has Fallen," which will bring the "300" star back to the area for a second time since filming the romantic comedy "Playing The Field" with Jessica Biel, currently in post-production and due out in December. Now he'll play an ex-Secret Service agent fighting to defend the Capitol building from terrorists.
Millennium Films president Diego Martinez on Tuesday confirmed the project is in pre-production now. Filming is expected to begin in July and continue through August. "It's a very big project. The tag line I've seen is 'Die Hard in the White House,' is what they're calling it," so it should be very very exciting."
Martinez says it will be the biggest project Millennium ("The Expendables," "Righteous Kill") has done in Louisiana to date, and that they are in the process of signing yet another big name to portray the president in the movie.
Olympus is set for release in 2014.
The studio, owned by parent company Nu Image, opened just over year ago in the Ledbetter Heights on the edge of downtown Shreveport. The 70,000 square-foot, $10 million project covers 6.7 acres, featuring two sound stages, over 14,000 square feet of office space Studio Operations. The property also houses Worldwide FX, which has done work on "Conan the Barbarian," "Trespass," "The Expendables" and "The Mechanic."
Millennium is currently in the process of acquiring more land to make room for a 20,000 square foot prop house, specialty sets and wardrobe. They're also hoping to create more office and parking space for trucks and vendors.
