Gerard Butler Circling Video Game Adaptation 'Kane & Lynch' for Millennium (Exclusive)


F. Gary Gray is on board to direct the project, which could reteam the duo that made "Law Abiding Citizen."

Kane & Lynch seems to be the video game move adaptation with unlimited life points.

The Nu Image/Millennium Films project, which has come and gone several times, has Gerard Butler, who starred in Millennium's hit Olympus Has Fallen, in talks to star as Kane, with F. Gary Gray on board to direct. The move could very well reteam the duo, who last worked together on the surprise 2009 action hit Law Abiding Citizen.

Millennium has an offer out to Vin Diesel to play Lynch, but it's too early to say how that will go.

The game follows Kane, a death row inmate who, along with a schizophrenic killer named Lynch, is sprung from prison to retrieve a stolen fortune. Kane travels to Los Angeles, Japan and Cuba, with Lynch acting as the team's watchdog in order to save his wife and daughter. The game was developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive.

The movie adaptation of the game has been in the works since 2007, with Lionsgate planning on stars Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx, and Simon Crane directing. Gray was involved with one iteration several years ago, but now is back.

The script is by Skip Woods and Kyle Ward. Producing are Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter.

Butler, repped by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment, is prepping to star in Summit's fantasy Gods of Egypt with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Geoffrey Rush.

Gray is repped by UTA, Principato Young Entertainment and Del Shaw.

It's been over three years since we've heard anything about the long-gestating adaptation of the video game Kane & Lynch set up at Nu Image/Millennium Films. The last time we heard about the project, it had Jamie Foxx and Bruce Willis attached to the title roles with director F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) at the helm, but the project was delayed and never moved forward. Now it has life again, but the aforementioned stars have fallen away. However, Gray is still attached as director, and now THR reports his Law Abiding Citizen star Gerard Butler is in talks to play Kane, and another big name is being sought after for Lynch.

Millennium currently has an offer out to Vin Diesel to play Lynch, but they say it's still too early to say whether or not it will work out. For those just joining us, the story follows Kane, a death row inmate who, along with a schizophrenic killer named Lynch, are sprung from prison by Kane's former team so that he can retrieve a stolen fortune. I've never been a Vin Diesel fan, but if he does this film with Gerry, Gerry better get back in the gym. He will look like a bean pole next to Vin.

Gerard Butler to Play Half of ‘Kane & Lynch,’ Producers Want Vin Diesel to Co-Star


Briefly: One video game adaptation that keeps restarting from save points is Kane & Lynch, which has had directors and potential cast members come and go over since shortly after the first game’s debut in 2007. The game series features the two title characters, two escaped death row inmates who find that they were broken out of prison only to be coerced into tracking down a giant cache of loot for a big criminal organization. Turns out that recruiting pychopathic, schizophrenic men to do such work isn’t the best idea, and much violence ensues.

Now Gerard Butler is in talks to play Kane, and F. Gary Gray, once set to direct a while back, on board once more to make the movie. To round out the lead duo, producers are hoping to land Vin Diesel. THR has the news, saying that an offer is out to Diesel, but even Butler isn’t signed just yet. Butler and Gray have worked together before, on the Gray’s most recent feature Law Abiding Citizen, and the director worked with Diesel on A Man Apart.

Gerard Butler is currently in talks to star in video game adaptation Kane & Lynch, according to THR!

The 43-year-old actor would take on the role of Kane and would reunite with his Law Abiding Citizen director F. Gary Gray, who is set to helm the flick.

Vin Diesel has been offered the role of Lynch, but it is still too early to know if he will be part of the adaptation, which has been in the works since 2007.

Gerard Butler Circles Kane Role in KANE & LYNCH Adaptation; Offer out to Vin Diesel to Play Lynch


The long-gestating adaptation of the 2007 Kane & Lynch video game may have found one of its two title roles in Gerard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen).  Director F. Gary Gray has been on and off the project over the last few years, but is currently attached to helm the adaptation.  If a deal is made for Butler to play Kane, that would reunite the director and star of the 2009 film, Law Abiding Citizen.  Butler’s co-star in that film, Jamie Foxx, was once eyed to play a lead in this film opposite Bruce Willis with Simon Crane directing, but those plans have come and gone.  An offer is currently out to Vin Diesel to play Lynch.  Hit the jump for more.
