A cop, some truckers and other strangers--and God's mysterious ways

As I said in the random thread, my heart is breaking for someone who needs a miracle. I love hard---too hard---some say and when those I love hurt it really gets to me. And as my mom says, strange things always happen to me. It's like there is a target on me.

I didn't look forward to the long drive tonight since I had a lot on my mind. Tonight, as fate would have it, I was pulled over by a cop. I wasn't speeding and didn't run any caution lights (my worse driving habit) so I was confused. It turns out my headlight was out. The cop was super sweet (and hot) and told me upfront he was only going to give me a warning (hey, my second in less than a month). He walked around me car with me to show me where it was.

When I asked where I could get it fixed he told me I wouldn't have much luck at 11 p.m. I had two more counties to cross and I didn't want to get pulled over in each one. And the other cops may have written me an expensive ticket and not a warning and they may not have been so nice. I feel lucky I got that cop.

I am resourceful so when I saw a truck stop I pulled in because it looked full. I walked in and very loudly asked if someone could help me with my headlights. Okay, not the best choice of words but I had some takers--strangers, truckers and people who were just there to get gas. They fixed my headlight and one bought me a frozen cola (I love those). Little did they know I needed to see some good in people tonight. I can't believe how they were willing to help a stranger.

I like to think that God (that's just my belief and I don't want to force it on anyone), sometimes puts us in situations because he needs to teach us something. I don't think my friend is going to get the big miracle he needs so desperately even though I am still hoping. I will grieve with him in the morning. But the kindness of a cop, some truckers and other strangers lets me know there is so much beauty and good in this world.

These are the simple things that matter in life.

People are mostly good. The bad ones just get more press time.

You are right, Julie. I have seen a lot of good in people in the past 24 hours despite some tough circumstances for people around me.

I am inspired by what I see and I hope to give the 'good' more attention in the future.

Now if I could only sleep for more than 3 hours at at time!

The last time I said that was immediately after hubby's shoulder surgery and I was up every few hours to give him pain meds and ice and food, etc.

The time before that I had a newborn.

How could I leave you guys? I will still be a little scarce but tonight I have my house to MYSELF! I love having dates with MYSELF! I have good taste in music and movies, I think.

But really, I have a ton of things to do but I have my laptop on and some good tunes playing I work!
