LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Gerard Butler’s dating life has been the source of great speculation – with rumors that the actor has been linked to a slew of Hollywood’s hottest leading ladies – but the Scotsman says he’s single and looking for a colorful lady to come into his life.

The “How to Train Your Dragon” and “The Bounty Hunter” star stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday and set the record straight on his dating life.

“Are you single?” a curious Ellen asked.

“Yes,” Gerard replied.

“I know that women out there are going, ‘Just ask if he’s single.’ They want to know that,” Ellen explained.

He might currently be flying solo, but the 40-year-old actor revealed his plan for finding the perfect wife and child when AccessHollywood.com’s Laura “Dish of Salt” Saltman caught up with him at the junket for “Dragon” last Saturday.

”[‘How to Train Your Dragon’] made me think, ‘Wow, I would really like to have an animated kid,” Gerard joked. “I don’t know how I’m going to do that, [but] I’m going to try!”

The actor said he wouldn’t stop with just an animated offspring.

“Maybe I could animate the perfect woman,” he joked again.
