At work we have a thing called 'the nest' which looks exactly like this hat! We use it for little orphan puppies or kitten to keep them warm and cosy. (you can put a hot water bottle underneath them if needed) So maybe he is just wearing this thing to be prepared for saving baby animals, who knows?
