Yeah, we've seen his commercials all over the place...
He's funny, but not in the US.
Oh well, I'll be watching to see if my Basterds win.

I love Ricky Gervais!
I wonder if Gerry's "most devoted fan" will attempt to get another picture with him...

I've always loved Ricky and his comedy. But his latest movie "The Invention of Lying" was horrible and incredibly offensive to me. I believe he also wrote it, and is an atheist. The movie made fun of God and religion (so much so that it was crammed down your throat) and was so blasphemous that I almost walked out. I couldn't believe that he got so many stars to make a cameo, considering that the US is a nation in which a high percentage of people believe in God. It was really offensive to those who do - IMO.

I haven't seen it yet, Dallas. Not sure I will.
The sister of a friend of mine was one of his producers on that movie. I shall ask her what's the go with the anti-God stance.
Donna, like most good hosts Gervais enjoys taking the p!ss out of pompous people. It should be entertaining at least. However, I do wonder if we are doomed to see another article about Butler's fanship.

Whether you find it offensive or not, I think you will find that movie boring. It was not a very good movie all around, IMO. The poking fun of religion part of the movie was just icing on top of an already bad film for me.
For example, his character supposedly has information about the "man in the sky" and comes out to a crowd of people with "laws" from this man written on pizza boxes a la the ten commandments. It's an alternate world where people can not tell a lie, but Ricky finds that he can and makes one up about "heaven" and the "man in the sky" to comfort his mother as she lies dying in the hospital. People hear of this and start asking questions and then he addresses them with the pizza boxes and "laws" that he has made up. It all came across as mocking towards God etc. as if religion is all lies and stories. Very wierd movie. The rest of it was just lame jokes and a boring plot. I found myself bored AND offended.
However, I think he will be a great host and should make the GGs entertaining. I like his stand-up. I just hated that movie and disagree with his personal views on relgion. He is an atheist and thus believes differently than I do.

I just don't find him funny over here...I love his British work, well, the Office and his stand up. But once they try to make movies over here, they lose something. His other show wasn't too bad, but it wasn't like the Office.

Dallas, that does sound offensive. I'm glad you told us before I wasted money renting that.
