Scottish actor Gerard Butler says he has not read a tabloid in years and does not care what they write.

There have been a series of recent articles linking The Ugly Truth star to his upcoming leading lady, former Friends actress Jennifer Aniston.

He has denied they are romantically involved and at the London premiere of his new movie the 39-year-old said: "I'd probably rather they didn't make up the stuff they do, it's ridiculous, but I don't ever see them anymore."

Butler was joined on the red carpet by his co-star Katherine Heigl who admitted she has a soft spot for the 300 actor.

When he was compared to George Clooney she replied: "I wouldn't turn either of them down if I were eligible."

She stars in the film as a romantically frustrated TV producer, opposite Butler's male chauvinist.

The Ugly Truth is released on Friday.
