Amy Sacco Knows Steve Lewis, Doesn’t Ask Gerard Butler to Kill Us

Last night we had the privilege of attending the splendid after-party for the Cinema Society’s screening of surefire hit The Hangover. Packed into the midsummer night’s dreamy yard at the Soho Grand was everyone from Zach Braff to Paula Abdul and Caroline Rhea (!!!). But the person we most wanted to speak to was New York nightlife dignitary Amy Sacco, regarding a recent, somewhat unflattering column our nightlife blogger Steve Lewis wrote about the state of her club institution Bungalow 8. I asked Amy if she really didn’t know who Steve Lewis was, which sent her off on an mini-tirade against poor Uncle Steve. Amy was cool, though. It’s when Leonidas himself showed up behind her that we shifted into shit-our-pants mode.

Amy clarified that she of course knew who Steve Lewis was, but couldn’t believe it was her Steve Lewis writing these things. We nodded our heads—sure sure, no big deal—when Gerard Butler wandered over to give Amy a hug. “What’s going on here?” he said. “Oh, I’m just talking about some asshole blogger,” Sacco said. Then, with a pointing finger and stern gaze as though tonight, he dined in hell, Butler demanded of us, “Is it you?” Amy, taming the lion, cleared up any confusion with a simple, “No, it was some other guy.” Butler’s bloodlust dissipated, and we noshed on a few more sliders. All in all a great night.
