I loathe those mandatory cards. They screw with people's sense of self. They perpetuate commercialization of nice sentiments.

I hate all mandatory holiday activities aimed at giving to or making something for someone. Someone always gets devastated by the activities. Unpopular kids don't get tons of cards, reinforcing their unpopularity. Kids without mothers making Mother's Day cards for dead or runaway mothers. Sucks.

I know we are off track here but I couldn't agree with you more, Julie. Someone always has their hopes up and are often hurt when little kids don't reciprocate with Valentine's Cards. When the annual celebration days come around and there isn't a Mum/Dad etc. it is awkward in the least.

We're not off track. It's not politically correct to slam holidays, especially ones that promote the economy.
