‘London Has Fallen’ Teaser Trailer: London Bridge is Falling Down

Antoine Fuqua and Gerard Butler were an unlikely pair to deliver a visceral and fun throwback action pic – but they did just that with Olympus Has Fallen, Fuqua’s 2013 film that was kindly referred to as, “Die Hard in the White House.” Olympus was a moderate success, pulling $98 million domestically and another $62 million internationally (on a $70million budget), warranting this forthcoming sequel, London Has Fallen.

From the title you can guess that the locale has changed, but the setup remains largely the same; former special forces warrior-turned-presidential guard Mike Banning (Butler) is in London guarding president Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart), only to find that they are at the center of an intricate terrorist attack – one that aims to maim a few important national landmarks.

This first teaser for London Has Fallen honors the franchise’s ’90s action movie throwback feel (hopefully intentionally), with an ominous montage reminding us that, in a certain year, the movie we previously watched happened; but now, in this year, a new installment of the franchise is about happen…

From there, we see familiar faces from the first film, including Butler and Eckhart, Morgan Freeman as the Speaker of The House, Melissa Leo as the Secretary of Defense, and Radha Mitchell as Mike’s love interest, Leah.

Other than that, these scenes of violent terrorist attacks on London landmarks could be pulled from any of the G.I. Joe, James Bond or [insert film franchise that has blown up something in London, recently]. In fact, if you threw a few scenes of Kiefer Sutherland into this mix, most viewers might have trouble distinguishing this from the 24: Live Another Day miniseries.

With director Antoine Fuqua not returning to the helm (passing off duties to Banshee director Babak Najafi), there’s also the question of whether London Has Fallen will measure up in the action department. With just brief glimpses of footage to go on, there do seem to be some thrilling (if not cliched) sequences that we’ll see. Hopefully, the franchise now knows its own identity and strengths (unabashed violent action throwback), and plays to those.

London Has Fallen will be in theaters on January 22nd, 2016.

They blew it all up!! The first teaser trailer has debuted for London Has Fallen, the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler as Mike Banning and Aaron Eckhardt as the President. Both of them are back again, along with Morgan Freeman, in London Has Fallen which does indeed bring the action to London. Melissa Leo, Radha Mitchell, Angela Bassett, Jackie Earle Haley and Robert Forster also star, but not everyone is in this footage yet. This teaser sets up the "London Has Fallen" showdown, putting Butler & Eckhardt at the center of "a plot to assassinate all the world leaders" in London. I'm sure it's going to be full of ridiculous action and crazy twists, so if you're excited for this you know what to expect.

London Has Fallen - Official Teaser Trailer!

Taking a leaf out Age of Ultron’s book on how to make trailers eerie, the debut promo for unwanted sequel London Has Fallen comes packaged with a spooky, slow, instrumental version of London Bridge is Falling Down. And you know what? It works, but only because they’re laying it over a seriously gritting minute of Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman furiously scowling at things.

In an effort to boost home release sales the trailer reminds us of the events of 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen; a film so bang-average that it managed to take the tried-and-tested Die Hard running order and turn it into a steaming pile of brown. From then on we get nothing but silence, all we here is that damn music and a montage of running, screaming and shooting at things. Hell, even a busby-donning guard is going at it, bayonet and all.

Butler takes on the role of Mike Banning once again. On duty in the UK protecting the president (Eckhart) while they attend the Prime Minister’s funeral (because what’s an American action movie without some British deaths in it?), Banning uncovers a plot to assassinate all of the attending world leaders. Confirming once and for all that shit just follows him everywhere and that if senior politicians want protecting they should kill him and hire someone else.

I’m not holding out much hope for this; its predecessor was totally lame. But hey, let’s give it a fair crack of whip, eh?

London Has Fallen is out early next year.

And now Gerard Butler is back as Mike Banning, but this time he is heading across the pond.

An action packed teaser for London Has Fallen was released on Wednesday which featured plenty of guns, fire and explosions.

The film is centred around Gerard's character discovering a plot to assassinate all attending world leaders attending a British Prime Minister's funeral.

The clip begins with the calm before the storm as beautiful external shots of landmarks including the London Eye and Buckingham Palace are shown.

Then the President Of The United States Benjamin Asher, played by Aaron Eckhart, is seen arriving via helicopter as secret service agent Mike waits patiently by their pick-up vehicle.

Flashbacks could be seen of the White House exploding from original flick Olympus Has Fallen before a bomb is detonated on a bridge in the capital of England.
