He was last seen enjoying a frisky display with his current girlfriend, but it was a reflective Gerard Butler who stepped out for a solitary coastal stroll on Friday afternoon – and with good reason.

The 45-year-old actor gave his salutations to the sun while meditating in appropriately picturesque surroundings on Malibu Beach following a stroll close to the shoreline.

With his eyes closed and his back straight, Gerard adopted the standard sitting pose favoured by advocates of the therapeutic practice.

The Scottish star paused for a moment of contemplation after a quiet walk along the sand, during which he was seen taking photographs of an impressive rock sculpture.

Last Sunday Gerard was spotted with his hands up girlfriend Morgan Brown's top as the couple enjoyed a morning walk in Malibu on Sunday.

Not that she seemed to mind, as the pretty brunette began grinning after realising her boyfriend had been caught red-handed by onlookers.

For the morning out, Gerard kept his look casual in a baggy tee and loose fitting shorts.

Meanwhile, Morgan opted to put some flesh on display, stepping out in a white string top and high-waisted jeans, which showed off her petite frame.

The interior design recently sparked rumours that her actor boyfriend had popped the question when she stepped out with an impressive rock sparkling on her ring finger.

However, the diamond appeared to be missing from her hand on Sunday, suggesting that she and Gerard are perhaps not engaged.

The couple were first pictured together in late July last year. Ever since, they have been almost inseparable.

Despite his reputation as a Hollywood playboy, it seems as though the Scottish hunk may finally be ready to settle down.

Just before meeting Morgan last year, he said: ‘I have not met the one princess yet.'

But he said he was looking towards the future.

‘I do want kids. For now I have four nieces. I often wonder what it would be like to share a movie with my kids. It does make me think.’

His last serious relationship was with Romanian model Madaline Ghenea in 2013.

Previously, Gerard has also enjoyed flings with a number of stars including Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz and supermodel Naomi Campbell.
