Hollywood star Gerard Butler is on the hunt for a Scottish castle
THE Scots actor says he fell in love with the idea after being a wedding guest last summer and has already started hunting for his perfect baronial home.
HOLLYWOOD star Gerard Butler is on the hunt for a Scottish castle.
The Scots actor says he fell in love with the idea after being a wedding guest last summer.
Butler - who’s worth more than £25million - has already started searching for his perfect baronial home.
The Paisley-born hunk owns gaffes in New York and Los Angeles but says his heart belongs to Scotland.
Butler, 45, made it his New Year’s resolution to splash out on his own castle after returning home for Christmas.
He said: “I was recently back [in Scotland] for a wedding in a castle, and walking through the gardens and into the castle itself, I made up my mind to do it.
“It inspired me to get a place like that - Scotland really is where my heart is.”
Butler, whose movies include 300 and Law Abiding Citizen, spent the festive season back in Perthshire’s Comrie with relatives and was out on the town in Glasgow, meeting up with fellow ex-pat Scot Ross King one night.
The hunk’s mother Margaret, lives in Perthshire, with her second husband, Alex Coll, who he is close to, even sharing holidays.
It’s understood he is looking for a home close to his mum who’s in her 70s.
Butler, who’s often accompanied by her at film events, said in an interveiwe that she was unimpressed by his star status in Hollywood.
He was raised by his mother single-handedly, from 18-months old, after his father walked out.
But he said: “It’s amazing how familial bonds just fall away and your mum pushes past you at a premiere because she wants to meet Hilary Swank. Of course Hilary loved my mum. They all love my mum.”
Butler is set to spend more time in Britain this year as filming is due to begin on London Has Fallen, the sequel to the hit Olympus Has Fallen with Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman.
He flew back to America for the New Year however to be with girlfriend Morgan Brown, who he’s been dating for around six months.
She has British ties too - her half-brother Lorcan is the son of Peter O’Toole.
The actor has in the past been linked to a long list of Hollywood’s leading ladies including Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz says he’s now used to speculation about his love life.
He added: “Rumours are completely inevitable. A story needs to be made, and now I just wait to see it pop up in the headlines.
“I mean, I’m not saying I’ve never had anything with my leading lady, but 90 per cent of the time it’s not true.
“I love hanging out with women. They can be the best of friends and really look out for you in ways that guys, well, sometimes don’t.
“I’ve got female friends. At least, I think they’re purely platonic. [Or] perhaps I’m missing something. Perhaps there is always a sexual energy there - after all, it is still a man and a woman.”
Butler, who is the new face of Hugo Boss, also said endorsements allow him to pick-and-choose- his film projects.
He said: “I love it; they’re great. Now I don’t have to do that big crappy movie I was going to have to take for the money.”
Yesterday a spokesman for G-Base, Gerard’s Los Angeles-based production company said: “We wouldn’t comment on Mr Butler’s private life.”
