Gerard Butler leads the dapper gents at the GQ Awards... while Jools Holland takes a tumble

By Hanna Flint for MailOnline

The GQ Men Of Year Awards returned to London on Tuesday night, bringing with it some of the world's most handsome gents of stage, screen and television.

And leading the dapper show was Scottish actor Gerard Butler, looking like he could be the next James Bond in his immaculate tuxedo.

Sadly the same couldn't be said for Jools Holland, who took a tumble as he arrived to the event held at the Royal Opera House.

Suits you sir: Gerard Butler leads the dapper gents arriving at the GQ Awards on Tuesday night

Flying solo? The Scottish actor seemed to be without his mystery girlfriend on Tuesday night

It seems the musical host of Late Night With Jools Holland tripped where the carpets were joined outside in Covent Garden.

Luckily Jools just laughed it off before hot-footing it inside to forget the sorry situation.

For Gerard,it seems he isn't ready to show off his new lady who he has been seen spending a lot of time with over the last few weeks.

Big fall with Jools Holland: The musical presenter takes a tumble on his way into the event

Oh dear: It seems Jool tripped over the lining where two red carpet panels joined

Laughing it off: With a bow the music man headed into the Royal Opera House

No doubt that gave him time to converse with the many other stylish men and women arriving for the awards show put on by the UK version of the mens' magazine.

Of course, Britain's top male model David Gandy was one of the guests, smouldering in his three-piece suit on the red carpet.

While Jamie Dornan and Luke Evans decided against traditional black and opted for blue in their choices.

Fifty shades of blue: Jamie Dornan and Luke Evans forego traditional black for their dapper outfits

Loved up: Jamie brought his stunning wife Amelia Warner to the ceremony

Check you out: Sporting a new hair cut, Luke seemed very impressed with Daisy Lowe's plunging jumpsuit

Sporting a bit of an afternoon shadow, Benedict Cumberbatch oozed sophistication in his all-black outfit, while styling red curls into a side-parting.

Fifty Shades Of Grey star Jamie's suit was a rich colour that stood out against his black shoes, tie and white shirt, while Luke went for a shimmering retro jacket.

He also seemed to have trimmed his curls and slicked back his hair to complete his jazzy Rat Pack look.

Young guns: Sam Smith and actor Freddie Highmore were suited and booted for the black tie event

He's happy! Pharrell Williams, who arrived in a camouflage biker jacket, ripped jeans and customised Chanel boots

Sam Smith arrived wearing a two-tone burgundy tie with his tuxedo jacket, while actor Freddie Highmore added a little modernity to his traditional tux with a shirt that featured a black lining where the buttons join.

Always one to stand out is Pharrell Williams, who arrived in a camouflage biker jacket, ripped jeans and customised Chanel boots.

Actor Douglas Booth had been in Los Angeles with his LOL co-star Miley Cyrus, but made sure he was back in London in time to make a handsome appearance at the GQ Awards.

Take a bow: Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey was no doubt wearing his own brand for the event, and Dan Stevens was one of the many gents in blue

A not so Single Man: Colin Firth arrives with his stylish wife Livia

Colin Firth arrived with his stylish wife Livia, who opted for a nude coloured tuxedo jacket with matching shoes and black trousers rather than a dress.

Christopher Bailey was no doubt wearing a Burberry suit, having his choice of designs being their creative director and all, while Dan Stevens wore a vibrant blue tux.

Is it raining? The style of Lewis Hamilton's jacket made it look rather wet, while girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger opted for a white bandage style gown

Good chat: Lewis Hamilton takes some time chat to Avengers star Samuel L Jackson

Glam couples: Iggy Pop and Gary Kemp brought their stunning wives

Loved up: Kanye West and wife Kim Kardashian would certainly be stealing a lot of focus at the ceremony

It looked Lewis Hamilton's jacket had gone through the washing machine and not been properly dried, but on the arm of Nicole Scherzinger people were more likely focused on her.

Kanye West kept his evening look simple with a navy jacket, T-shirt and trouser combo - letting the focus be on his wife Kim Kardashian who wore a custom-designed Ralp & Russo couture number.

Also in attendance were Peter Capaldi, Jonah Hill, Samuel L. Jackson, Greg James and golden oldies Ringo Starr and Ronnie Wood with their wives

Classic: David Walliams looked vintage cool in a white tuxedo jacket while Lara Stone looked equally retro in a circle-detail minidress

Pals: Kanye and Kim hang out with Pharrell Williams at the awards ceremony

Hello gents: Mackenzie Crooke, Peter Capaldi and Greg James also attended the star-studded event

Gerard Butler Makes Hugo Boss Look So Good at GQ Men of the Year Awards 2014

Gerard Butler is handsome in a tuxedo while attending the 2014 GQ Men of the Year Awards held at The Royal Opera House on Tuesday (September 2) in London, England.

The 44-year-old Scottish actor was joined by Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Firth, who brought his wife Livia Giuggioli.

During the ceremony, Samuel presented the editor’s special award to Liam Neeson. Congrats Liam!

Earlier in the day, Gerard was dapper in a grey suit while attending a photo call as the new ambassador for Boss and Boss Bottled.
