Gerard Butler Tells Us What He Loves About Latinas!
At the age of 43, Gerard Butler knows what he likes in a member of the opposite sex. And guess what my fellow Latinas? It could be you!
The Scottish actor has been spending some time in Miami this week promoting his latest film, Playing for Keeps, where he stars as George, a former soccer star and playboy who is trying to become a more responsible member of society in an effort to earn the love and admiration of his son Lewis (Noah Lomax). Along the way, George is met with temptation by way of randy soccer moms who want him and overly ambitious dads who want to be him.
We had the chance to chat up the P.S. I Love You and Machine Gun Preacher star during the movie junket in sunny South Florida yesterday and we discussed what it was like playing a dad on the big screen, how far he would go to win a woman’s heart, and whether or not he could see himself having a future with a Latina.
Welcome back to Miami Gerard! What have you been doing while in town?
I haven't really had the opportunity to do an awful lot in Miami because we just got in last night. But this morning I woke up early and went for a walk along the beach and it was perfect! The weather is so incredible right now and the vibe is just great!
You play the character of George in your new film, Playing for Keeps. What can you tell us about him?
George has lived the life of being very much in the spotlight and the center of attention. But now, he finally attempts to grow up and move away from all of that and move towards the responsible elements of life like actually being a father, turning up on time [to see him] and becoming reliable.
One of his main problems is he's just a big kid. He doesn't know how to say no or how to keep his boundaries. That's what he learns as the movie goes on, what's important.
In the film, your ex-wife Stacie is played by Jessica Biel. At this point we don’t know if there will be reconciliation between your characters but it got us thinking, how far would you go to win a woman’s heart?
On one hand you don't want to make a fool of yourself because you don't want a woman looking at you thinking you’re an idiot. But at the same time, I've been amazed with what happens when you do put in a bit of effort.
It's happened to me on a couple of occasions, including in my last relationship, where I did something pretty drastic and it seemed to work! [laughs]
I don’t think you need to go very far Gerard. There are plenty of Latinas in Miami that would be happy to have you!
I guess I'm in the right place then! [laughs]
Is that something that you would consider? Dating a Latina?
Yes, I love Latinas! If someone other than me were to describe my type of woman, they often describe a taller woman with dark hair and dark skin, which is a lot like the Latinas I've met in Miami.
It's not that I have one specific type [of woman] that I love but I like girls that [have those features]. So when you come to Miami there are plenty of beautiful Latina women around and I love their energy and their spice. They are so fun!
Just from doing my interviews today, everyone who has come in has been not only beautiful but so nice and with a great sense of humor. So yes, I definitely love diversity!
You can catch Gerard and his castmates Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman, and Dennis Quaid when, “Playing for Keeps” hits theaters on December 7th, 2012.
