Gerard Butler: 'Playing for Keeps' Charity Screening!

Gerard Butler poses with an adorable little girl while attending a special Children’s Hospital Los Angeles benefit screening of his film Playing for Keeps at the ArcLight on Wednesday (November 28) in Hollywood.

The 43-year-old actor was joined by his co-stars Dennis Quaid and James Tupper.

The day before, Gerard made an appearance on the Univision talk show Despierta America before taking a flight from Miami to LAX.

He's best known as Hollywood hardest working lothario.

But Gerard Butler showed off his softer side as he spent time with ill, young friend Abella Wyss at a charity screening for his new film Playing for Keeps on Wednesday.

The Scottish heartthrob made the poorly young girl's night as he gave her a hug ahead of the Soccer of Hope special screening in aid of the Los Angeles Children's Hospital at the ArcLight Hollywood.

Abella, who suffers from a rare genetic blood disorder, has struck up a bond with the 300 star who scooped her up in his arms at the screening.

The daughter of Gerard's friend Oliver Wyss has spent a lot of time with the A-lister over the last few months as he has been championing the young girl's charity.

The single star surprised onlookers by showing his caring nature, proving that there's a lot more to the actor than hit films and a string of conquests.

Dressed casually in a black T-shirt and a wooly jumper, Gerard was joined by co-star Dennis Quaid for the screening, which was to raise money and awareness for the charity.

The actor sported his usual face of stubble and slightly disheveled hair, and looked over the moon to be using his new film to help out the children's charity.

Although co-star Jessica Biel couldn't be at the screening, Hollywood heavyweight Dennis was there to pose for photographs with Gerard.

Charity scores at 'Playing for Keeps' preem

Gerard Butler admits that playing a retired soccer star and children's coach in FilmDistrict's "Playing for Keeps" was a fantasy come true.
"I never kidded myself that I was that good, but I used to play for four teams in Scotland," he said at the Nov. 28 benefit screening at the Arc-light Hollywood. "It used to be all I did. It's so pervasive there."

Butler, who also essayed an American soccer player in "The Game of Their Lives," noted his character in "Playing for Keeps" trod the pitch for his beloved Glasgow Celtic and Liverpool clubs.

"Sometimes it's not easy to find their games out in California," he said. "But I've been here 12 years and I love it. It would be hard to live anywhere else."

Producer Alan Siegel said the original Robbie Fox script had involved Little League baseball.

"We couldn't get it set up anywhere, because baseball is only really popular in the United States and Japan," he said. "So I asked Robbie to change it to soccer."

The event was a benefit for the Soccer for Hope charity, which helps children with life-threatening illnesses. Prior to the screening, Butler presided over the presentation of a $50,000 check to Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
