LOS ANGELES — Sarah Jessica Parker and Gerard Butler are adding to the star wattage at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.

The actors will be the hosts of the 19th annual event, to be held Dec. 11 in Oslo, Norway. Jennifer Hudson and Seal are among the performers.

Parker says she is honored to “promote the power of peace around the world. Butler said the European Union has shown “the world what is possible when forces unite in peace” and called the concert a “remarkable celebration of humanity.”

Past winners of the Nobel Peace Prize include Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, former Vice President Al Gore and President Barack Obama.

Good question, Nay. We are too obsessed with "celebrity" these days. Sad.

The past winners are too busy doing real work.

For the Nobel Peace Prize, having these entertainers there isn't entirely off the wall. They do contribute to and promote charities and world peace.

For the science stuff, these people have no business being anywhere near there.

When Obama won it before he did anything to deserve it, I realized that the prize is often meaningless and political.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Gerard Butler will be hosting the Nobel Peace Prize Concert this year in Oslo, Norway.

The concert will feature performances by Jennifer Hudson and Seal, among others.

When Obama won it before he did anything to deserve it, I realized that the prize is often meaningless and political.

I was highly disappointed that the Nobel Prizes are tainted by politics. I felt the same sadness when I discovered teaching awards at universities have nothing to do with the quality of the winners' teachings, but rewards for political favorites.

Since then I've found out that pretty much all grown up awards are poltical, and occasionally the recipients happen to somewhat deserve them.

Yeah, I'm jaded.
