A brief conversation with Gerard Butler in the washroom at Grey Goose Soho House
Before Harvey Weinstein’s crazy shindig sent Grey Goose Soho House guests into full-on serious party mode, the Coriolanus after-party warmed the place up, with stars Ralph Fiennes (the director), Gerard Butler and Brian Cox all in attendance. Butler seemed grateful for the reception, mingling and high-fiving guests. He, like Susie Essman before him, dropped many F-bombs in his deep Scottish brogue, telling us his character in Machine Gun Preacher “is so f*cking serious—I’m more bubbly” before muttering that he “f*cking love[s] Toronto.” When we ran into him in the bathroom, he admitted he “wasn’t even sure which party he was there for until minutes before”—thank God for handlers and wranglers who keep celebs in the loop.
Ever the gentleman, Butler offered his stool at the bar to one of his girlfriends and proceeded to chat up nearly every blonde in the place. We overheard Cox talking with a friend about academia, also in a heavy Scottish accent (we were shocked, because we always assumed he was American), before ducking out early to catch a plane, while Fiennes was the only one we saw actually eating, digging into a plate with friends at one of the reserved tables. As the party melded with the Weinstein to-do, the pours on the drinks became more heavy-handed, and everything got a bit hazy. We didn’t care, because we can now claim we’ve gone to the bathroom with Gerard Butler.
