New Poster for Coriolanus Coriolanus

Coriolanus, a modern version of Shakespeare’s play, has been adapted into a “dangerous political thriller” by screenwriter John Logan, whose previously penned Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and The Aviator. The film will star Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave, and Brian Cox.

Synopsis provided by Icon Movies:

The citizens of Rome are hungry. Coriolanus, the hero of Rome, a great soldier and a man of inflexible self-belief, despises the people. His extreme views ignite a mass riot. Rome is bloody.

Manipulated and out-maneuvered by politicians and even his own mother Volumnia, Coriolanus is banished from Rome. He offers his life or his services to his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius. Coriolanus and Aufidius march on Rome intending to destroy the city. Volumnia appeals to her son. He tries to reject her but eventually breaks. Aufidius, feeling bitterly betrayed, brutally murders Coriolanus.

There is not yet an announced release date for Coriolanus.

Thanks, DK. I really like the layout but the subtitle grabs me most - Nature teaches beats to know their friends.

Check These Out: Three New Shakespeare-Filled 'Coriolanus' Banners

December 11, 2011
Source: Facebook
by Alex Billington

"He is a lion That I am proud to hunt." More Shakespeare is coming to the big screen again soon, following Roland Emmerich's Anonymous, though I'm not sure how many people, if any, saw that flick (it was pretty good). If you haven't forgotten about it, Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus is getting a wider release in theaters in late January, though it's out in NY/LA now. A few new banners were posted on the official Facebook that feature a couple of great Shakespeare lines used in the film. Gerard Butler co-stars as Tullus Aufidius, with Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave as Coriolanus' wife and mother.

Coriolanus is directed by British Oscar nominated actor Ralph Fiennes, who's making his directorial debut. The film is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's play of the same name, from the early 17th century, with a screenplay by John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd, Rango, Hugo). The was filmed in Serbia and Montenegro, with The Weinstein Company distributing in the US. Coriolanus is scheduled for a wide release starting January 20th next year, after a limited NY/LA debut December 2nd.
