MELVINDALE: Film starring Gerard Butler to be filmed in city next month

MELVINDALE –– Michigan’s film tax credits are bringing another Hollywood film to Downriver.

“Machine Gun Preacher,” starring Gerard Butler, will be filming in the city from July 8 to 28. Locations have been set for a trailer park and Jake’s Crossroads Bar, 2704 Oakwood Blvd..

The movie is based on the true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who were forced to become soldiers, according to the Internet Movie Database.

The state currently offers up to a 42 percent tax credit on filming.

I'm not sure which trailer park he'll be filming at, but it's one of these ones.
