Butler Has Fallen! Gerard Butler looks unrecognisable as he takes a tumble while filming scenes for new movie Keepers in Scotland

He's the handsome Scottish A-lister whose devastatingly good looks have catapulted him to heartthrob status in many households.

But Gerard Butler, 47, looked worlds away from his usual dapper self as he shot scenes for new movie Keepers in Scotland on Thursday.

The London Has Fallen actor appeared to look a little gloomy as he lost his balance on the rough terrain and took a tumble while filming.

Whoops! Gerard Butler, 47, lost his balance and took a tumble whilst filming scenes for new movie Keepers in Scotland on Thursday

Sporting grey in his beard and looking rather unkempt, the actor rolled onto his back before mustering the strength to rise up again.

Fellow Scotsman and co-star Peter Mullan appeared to be oblivious to Gerard's plight, as he casually relaxed on his phone beside him.

The handsome actor is known for having a rugged masculine-yet-preened appearance, which has landed him male love interest roles in romcoms such as The Ugly Truth and P.S. I Love You.

However, he appeared to let go of his polished Hollywood glow in order to look the part for his more serious role in Keepers.

The film is based on ghostly real-life events of 1900 which happened on a remote island group just off the Outer Hebrides of three lighthouse keepers that disappeared without a trace, which became known as the Flannan Isles mystery.

Following their strange disappearance, the bodies of the men were never found and conspiracy theories remain about who or what could have taken them from their post.

The movie plot will follow Butler in his role as James Ducat, one of the lighthouse keepers of the remote isle, as he arrives with two other keepers (Peter Mullan and Joe Alwyn) for their usual six week shift.

Oh dear: Sporting grey in his beard and looking rather unkempt, the actor rolled onto his back before mustering the strength to rise up again

The keepers will settle into their normal routine, until they stumble across gold - something that could potentially change their lives.

What follows is a tense battle for survival, fed by isolation, paranoia and greed, leading three honest men down a path to destruction.

Gerard's next film release, Geostorm, will be come out in October this year, and will feature Gerard racing against the clock to save the world from a man-made climate disaster.

Gerard Butler Loses His Balance On 'Keepers' Set in Scotland

Gerard Butler is still hard at work on his new movie Keepers.

The 47-year-old actor was spotted checking his phone in between shooting scenes with co-star Peter Mullan on Thursday (April 13) on location in Scotland.

At one point, Gerard seemed to lose his balance and fall over while sitting on a rock.

Keepers is inspired by the Flannan Isle mystery, in which three men who looked after the lighthouse on a tiny isolated island went missing and were never found.
