He teamed it with an apron and sported his rugged beard as he got into character.

Much the delight of a young cast mate, he swept the sweet little girl off her feet, beaming as he did so.

Busy: The 47-year-old actor was spotted on the set of latest movie Keepers, filmed on Port Logan

The latest scenes, filmed on an uninhabited island 20 miles from the rugged Scottish coast, see three lighthouse keepers arrive for their 6 week shift.

As Thomas (Peter Mullan), James (Gerard Butler) and Donald (Joe Alwyn) settle into their normal quiet routine, something unexpected, potentially life-changing occurs - they stumble upon gold.

Gerard has been sporting an unkempt beard as he takes on the role of a Scottish lighthouse keeper James Ducat in the movie.

Hunky: Dressed in his uniform grey tweed flat cap, he showed off his recently bulked up physique in a cream cable knit sweater

Sweet: Much the delight of a young cast mate, he swept the sweet little girl off her feet, beaming as he did so

Keepers is based on a true story that took place in the 1900s, which was dubbed the Flannan Isles mystery.

The mystery involves Arbroath lighthouse keepers Thomas Marshall, James and Donald MacArthur, who disappeared from a lighthouse during a terrible storm.

Following their strange disappearance, the bodies of the men were never found and conspiracy theories remain about who or what could have taken them from their post.

Vanity says: 'Keepers is set on an uninhabited island 20 miles from the Scottish coast as three lighthouse keepers arrive for their six-week shift.

'They stumble upon something that isn’t theirs to keep, triggering a tense battle for survival as personal greed replaces loyalty amid isolation and paranoia.'

Gerard spoke about having to beef up by undertaking a gruelling workout regime last year.

He told GQ magazine: 'Right now I’m training five times a week.'

Gerard added: 'It’s always a little harder when you’re on the road, unless you’re there for a while.

'I do a lot of cardio but I’m starting to lift heavy because in my next movie I’m supposed to be beefy, a big undercover cop in LA covered in tattoos – so it’s not big and cut, it’s just big! That’s a pain, it hurts.'
