I'm not surprised that the NY Post (and OK magazine and other sites) have picked up on this story. Ronnie Madra tweeted it and pics to Just Jared and another owner of The Darby tweeted about Gerry singing with pics. Kind of makes you wonder if things are intentionally done and sent to the press....
Regardless, I wish he would learn the lyrics to some other songs.

Second act

Gerard Butler gave an impromptu concert at Chelsea supper club The Darby last week. The “300” star was having a quiet dinner with friends, spies said, when the house band asked him to sing (as he’d done on his birthday last fall). This time, Butler obliged with hits by The Doors and Rolling Stones, as well as an “old-school freestyle rap.” He then brought the crowd to its feet with “Wonderwall.” “He looked the best he’s ever looked, and had the entire restaurant singing,” a spy said. “He killed it!”

Gerard Butler is clean and sober. He has also started singing in public. At The Darby in Chelsea last week, the 300 star apparently serenaded the supper club's patrons with the sweet sounds of The Rolling Stones, the Doors, "old school freestyle rap," and, finally, a cover of "Wonderwall." A witness says Butler "killed it," which we can't believe anyone would say about a set in the year 2012 that included "Wonderwall." [Page Six]

I wondered the same thing, Dallas. Feeding information and photos is common practice I realise but actively seeking it out like Madra did seems slightly pathetic.

seems i've read before that many stars do that.....actively seek out the publicity and notices.....especially in a "lull"....when no press junkets or anything like that are going on. keeps their names before the public. i guess i'm not self absorbed enough to be a celebrity. that kind of thing would drive me batty.

Sami, I suppose this is a bit of a lull which can be dangerous for people who may have trouble relaxing without the interactive nature of nightclubs. Don't you think???

Gerard Butler ROCKS OUT Manhattan Club With Help from Oasis [VIDEO]
Exclusive

It hasn't been 2 months since Gerard Butler left rehab for substance abuse -- but last week, he was already back at an NYC bar, where he blew away the crowd with a knockout performance of "Wonderwall" ... and we got video!!!

Butler stopped by The Darby supper club in Manhattan last Thursday -- the actor didn't drink a drop ... but he did take the stage and perform several songs, including one by The Doors and another by The Rolling Stones.

But the best by far ... Butler's rendition of the Oasis classic "Wonderwall" -- you gotta check out the clip. After all.

I can't decide if the top hat and trenchcoat make him look more like Willy Wonka...or Gary Oldman in Dracula...or simply a 19th century Englishman strolling the alleyways in search of Jack the Ripper.

Regardless, it's better than the cock hat. NYPost Article about Gerry singing at The Darby on Wednesday, April 4th 852437
