Weight Loss Workouts: The 300 Workout

by Lee on July 14, 2009

There are so many movies that inspire guys to get off their fat asses and work out that they should have their own genre. 300 is definitely one of those movies. Cinemas all over the world were full of guys who left that movie with serious drop in their self esteem levels and no wonder. The actors were in kick ass shape thanks to an intense workout regime (and a wee bit of CGI)

One of the workouts that Gerard Butler and co did to get into shape was the 300 workout.

What is the 300 workout?

The 300 workout is a high intensity program that will get your metabolism pumping and help get your strength levels in order. The basic principle is to complete 300 repetitions as fast as you can.

What exercises does it involve?

The 300 workout is not set in stone. You can pretty much use any exercise you want. It all depends on how tough you want the workout to be.

It sounds far too much for a beginner

It is definitely a tad too intense for someone dipping their toes into the world of fitness however that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t give it a bash. There is no time limit to complete the 300 repetitions however you would be looking to beat your time everytime you do it.

Can I see an example of the 300 workout?

Anyone doing their first 300 workout would be better off focusing purely on bodyweight exercises. A good example of a 300 beginners workout would go like this

* Chin ups – 50 reps
* Squats – 50 reps
* Push ups – 50 reps
* Crunches – 50 reps (25 each leg)
* Lunges – 50 reps
* Jump squats – 50 reps

So if your looking to burn fat and turn into a calorie burning machine then doing this workout 3 times a week would set you on the path. Especially when combined with some interval training.

Can I change some of the exercises?

As said before, the 300 workout is limited only by your imagination. It’s all about completing those 300 reps. It doesn’t matter how you get there however be sensible. It’s also advised to focus on a different bodypart from the last exercise you did. You dont want to follow up squats with 50 more lunges unless your looking to spend the next day in bed.
