Gerard Butler’s Buttons Have Abandoned Ship

Cannes just doesn’t seem as exciting now that the Butler Carnival has packed up its tent and moved on, does it? As promised, here’s your treat cats and kittens! Another part of that “boat” interview with Gerard Butler has surfaced. The clip below is part of The Hollywood Reporter’s Video Diary Series and is posted on their website. There are screen caps posted below as well.

First of all, I find it utterly charming that he still thinks about Dear Frankie with such fondness. His fans certainly do. If you haven’t seen that little gem of a movie from 2005 (it was actually filmed in 2003-before Phantom of the Opera-, played festivals all over the world for all of 2004 then finally got an extremely limited release in 2005), do it now.

Second, perfect example of how appearances can be deceiving: if you looked at the pics below without having seen the video, would you have any idea what was going on with those chest pics? No, and someone somewhere will probably see them and make up something about his supersized ego or something equally ridiculous. In context, they are funny and even silly. Some of them are just begging for captions. I do find it amusing he would act as if it were a new phenomenon, this lack of buttons in use on his shirt. The fact that he uses as few as he can get away with is actually part of Butler lore; as if he just barely tolerates and can hardly be contained by clothing most days. An odd dichotomy for a man who can wear the hell out of a suit. But I digress…The guy just does not take himself seriously, despite his detractors constant insistence to the contrary. He’s just too damn sexy for his shirt. I don’t think that’s his fault. Do you?
