The scribble under Iron Cross Prod. (who put up the sign) says,

"J. Butler did not catch 2 waves. Liar!!!"

GB said in all the interviews that one wave knocked him down and underwater, then before he could get to the surface, another wave crashed down on him and kept him underwater. He was held under for 2 waves, which is what killed Jay Moriarty, the surfer the movie is about.

The scribbler is saying GB lied about being held underwater for 2 waves' worth of time. That's my read.

FYI, Jay died free diving, not from a two wave hold down while surfing. I think he would free dive as part of his surf training, i.e. to increase his lung capacity and enable him to hold his breath for a long time at various depths. All is helpful when you are held underwater while surfing.

Or am I remember all this incorrectly? Anyone?

I stand corrected. It wasn't Jay Moriarty but some other surfer.

Also read that GB was not held down. He was hit in the head by 4 waves. That would explain the scribble.

I don't give a flip either way. GB took his life in his own hands surfing in an area where pro surfers died.
