Cute little story...

Gerard Butler+me=bffs forevaaa

WHAT IS THIS YOU SAY?? Yes, we now begin the ever stereotype session of “what famous person did you interact with”…where to begin??

So I’m finally employed, thank the deities above. It’s a minimum wage retail job but I don’t care. I’m glad to see how far having a B.A. has gotten me so far-even though, yes, I’m aware that a Theatre degree isn’t symbiotic with money making. Anyway, I can pay my rent now!!! And Bank of America can stop calling me!!!

So it’s my first day at work-I’ve literally been standing in the same square-foot of space for an hour. (That’s basically my job. I do it very well.) I’ve already been at work for four hours and am completely out of it, as one experiences anywhere, and especially on a first day of work. I’d like to now note that in the middle of the store between the staircase there is a huge mural of men and women climbing up a mountain. It’s one of those murals where the more you look at it, the weirder it gets: some guys are climbing up with ropes, some have their hands gripped around ropes that never were drawn in, there’s a magic champagne bottle that is spewing champagne all by itself, with no human present to enjoy it…and the people are just a little off looking…lazy artist? or GENIUS???

So I’m saying hello to people ascending the stairs to my floor, when I see this new group of people led by a blonde woman. I say hello, she says hi, I take note that she’s Scottish (best and hardest accents to perfect, I think) and then out of nowhere, BOOM Gerard Butler it inches from my face and says, “Excuse me, can you settle a bet with me and my friends?”

“Uh, yes sure.”

(pointing to the mural)

“Is that a man dressed up as a woman on a horse?”

“You know, I’ve been standing here for oh, an hour, and yes, I definitely think that’s a dude.”

“YES! Thank you! I totally was right! My friends and I were looking at it downstairs and were like, what the hell??

“Haha ya that’s totally a guy…”

“Well, thanks very much!”

So he walks away with his family (I think maybe it was his sister or something, and then the cutest little Scottish girls ever) to go shop and I continue to stand. Then I start sort of dancing in place, something recommended to me by my employees so your feet don’t hurt as bad at the end of the day, when I look over to my left, and there’s Mr. Butler sort of dancing, too. We both look at each other and proceed to dance. I’d like to note that I’m a really nerdy dancer. So is he. Oh god. We laugh and stop and we continue on our own duties-oh but I will never forget those ten seconds of dancing bliss. When he and his group were done shopping they went down my stairs and Gerard said, “thanks very much,” to which I said in possibly the most boring tone of voice ever, “Bye.” I think I was tired and sort of in shock, maybe? There was so much I wanted to say, “I AM AN ACTOR!!! I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!! WE’RE TOTALLY GOING TO BE IN A MOVIE TOGETHER!!! SPARTA!!!”

NO NO. bye.

But the cherry on top of the whole experience was after I said bye, he goes up to the horse/woman/man (way to represent different sexual orientations work!!) and points and mouths at me “What the hell?” to which I laugh and shrug.

Oh Gerard. One day we will meet again…..

It’s moments like this when I just have to take it as some sort of sign that I’ll forever be an actor and be in the business. I love those moments of random realizations when you know EXACTLY what a result will be. It happened to me while I was brushing my teeth one morning, and then at work pre-Gerard, when I just knew I’ll be making my living as an actor. Because that’s who I am. And it’s so easy to be impatient about it-I’m already freaking out that I’ve wasted time and I should be auditioning more and blah blah blah…but I think we all just need to take a step back. I’ve only moved here three months ago, even though it feels like forever, and I’ve only had a job to pay my rent for, a week. But it’s going to start happening, rather, I’m going to start happening. Uhh ya…word…play… I need to be the hardest working person in all of show business. And I don’t think I could have done that four years ago, hell, one year ago. I have a better sense of self and self-confidence than I’ve had in years. Still scared shitless? Yes. But I don’t know if that should go away. I think it’s ok to be scared about something you love. If you’re not even secretly scared, is that even love? I ask you.

So anywho, thankYOU Gerard Butler, for being very nice and funny, to the poor girl standing at a lame job. And one day I’ll be laughing about that first meeting at an interview on E!.

That's a neat story.

I love stuff like that.

I worked in retail for many years, and often wished for cutesy happenings with famous people. However, I didn't live where they frequented.

I once met Charlie Daniels. Woo-hoo!! (He was autographing at the local Walmart YEARS ago) The late actor Ossie Davis spoke at my jr. college commencement, and he kindly signed my program. Nice man.

And since moving to Jacksonville, a guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band, who lives in J'ville, came in the office. My co-worker was fawning all over him. And, a former Jaguar football player came in.

Needless to say, I am not familiar with either of these folks.

But I just love stories like that, and that was a good one. No malice. Very sweet and fun. And Gerry was obviously in good spirits and a good sport.

Lucky girl.

A nice little anecdote that shows a real spirit and joy in Senor Butler.

My first job was at JCPenneys...we got Sesame Street characters...although Prince Charles and Diana visited a store in NY...that's the closest I've been to working somewhere with people visiting.

There's a follow up to the blog:

Gerard Butler is Not in Aspen - We Live in LA

Rose and I were looking at our stats page to find out where people were finding links to our blog. In doing so we found we’ve created a bit of controversy on JustJared.com.

Just thought we’d share the goodness that can be found on celebrity blogs:

Emma @ 12/29/2009 at 9:18 am @Mr. Giggles: hehe yeah, that sounds right. Why does he always have to fug up around the holidays? lol I mean I’d still hit it but just saying… there was a story yesterday about someone who had an encounter with him at a shop there in aspen and if it’s true, his family is there with him. Who knows… let him do his thing and have his coffee. oh and where’s the fashion police? Seriously they need to do their rounds more often.

Mr. Giggles @ 12/29/2009 at 6:48 pm
To clarify……I don’t think the “shop girl” incident happened in Aspen.
Sounds more like it took place in LA where the girl is an aspiring actress —- So she didn’t meet G in the past few days….my guess is that it happened when LAC opened !!??

ManLESSton, I likely @ 12/29/2009 at 7:31 pm
@Mr. Giggles:
It sounds like one the two story stores in the center of town in Aspen close to the base of Snowmass. The mural sounds familiar. I’ll be honest, when I am in Aspen I ski not shop and we don’t spend any time in the shops there. I could be wrong but that’s what I remember…

Emma @ 12/29/2009 at 7:48 pm
Hey everyone.. slow day eh
I can’t comment on the shop girl thing, I’ve never been to Aspen so I don’t know. My bf and I just finished watching the ugly truth. he had never seen it. he goes: isn’t this the bloke from 300? what the hell happened to him?
.
lol oh no…
I miss him… don’t you? xx

Nunyabidness @ 12/29/2009 at 7:55 pm
The “shop” story is from a blog based in LA, so my guess is that it took place in LA. With all of the speculation about who he did or did not spend Christmas holiday with, has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe he flew his family out to LA and spent time with them at his home this year, instead of flying out to Scotland? Since he had just gotten back from the UK on the LAC tour, maybe they came to visit him in the States this time. It might also explain why he was under the radar for so long this time. As for who he may or may not be with in Aspen is anybody’s guess.

Well, to clear up all confusion.. the last post was correct. ‘Shop Girl’ and I do not live in Aspen. Never mind that our blog is titled To Actors: Welcome to LA...we understand that could have confused some people.

Good times.

- Jordan.

BTW: I'm "nunyabidness" on JustJared.

There have been some comments on JustJared and IMDB about how disappointed some fans are that "Gerry didn't spend Christmas in Scotland with his family" - as if his family is somehow grounded in Scotland and can't hop a flight to the States Laughing - not to mention that, at 40 years old, he isn't obligated to go see the family every single holiday. But anyway, I digress...my guess (as I stated on JJ) is that Gerry went under the radar to spend time with his family - in LA - then went to Aspen for the holidays.

I don't know where all of the Scotland speculation came from, given that the one interview he talked about it, he said he was "thinking" about going there for New Years, I believe. Or maybe it was Christmas, but still "thinking" about something doesn't mean you've made a decision. I change my mind all the time.

There's also the possibility he might be planting these stories to put people off the scent, so he can get a bit of a break. I wouldn't put it past him. Wink
