I think a lot of people make too much out of nothing.

It was a date. People go on dates all the time. It happens. Heck, once upon a time I went on a few dates with a guy, but I wasn't shagging him or getting engaged. It was dinner and some phone conversation.

What irritates me is that when he ISN'T with someone, people accuse him of being gay, having commitment issues, weird, etc. When he is with someone, he's accused of being a man-ho, or a player. When he goes to clubs, the women he's seen with are accused of being skanks and prostitutes. So he goes on a seemingly innocent date with what seems to be a nice girl at an amusement park, and the puritans claim he's acting inappropriately. What's so wrong with going on a date in an amusement park and kissing?? Since when did that become X-rated? I've seen more "inappropriate" behavior on parking lots and in department stores.

I'm sure there are a LOT of fans who believe they are 'the one'. This is where fantasy can become dangerous, because the line between the fantasy and reality become blurred to the point of non-existence. A new person is introduced into the equation (i.e. the date, the girlfriend, the wife, whatever) which threatens their PERCEPTION of what they believe to be real. The dose of reality crushes their fantasy world. It isn't the object of their supposed affection they're in love with, but it's their fantasy. Fantasies like this take up a life of their own, and become a living entity.

I will maintain that YOU CANNOT LOVE SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW - at least not in the romantic sense. I can have 'agape' love for you, but I cannot say that I'm 'in love' with you if I don't know you. There's a difference. That's why I don't fall for flattery. If you love me, show me...don't just say it. I don't use the "L" word lightly, and I don't expect it to be used lightly on me, either.

I'm sure in Gerry's line of work, he gets a lot of shallow people telling him how much they "love" him...and in my guestimation, I would say that probably 5% of it is actually sincere.

Here's what they want:


They want Gerry to stay single all his life.
They want him to date a nun and in complete privacy so that they don't have to see it.
They want him to have an expiry date on each nun he dates so that it never gets serious.
They want him to be at every convention and every afterparty hugging and kissing every one of his fans, but allow for 5 seconds per person....anything longer, even an extra word is inacceptable for it shows favourtism.
They want to see different pictures of him everyday so that they can know his whereabouts and make sure that he isn't going something they disapprove, even if they think he is the perfect man and they love him no matter what...but GOD FORBID it's a pic taken from a razzi!
To be accepted as a REAL fan, one must already be in a relationship (preferably binding like marriage) so that there is no chance of him falling in love with them (in their twisted minds).
...and of course, the fans that have been there the longest have priority. In other words, their opinion counts for more, and they literally have the right to "first wife" rights.
They don't want him to be gay because then that totally nulifies any chance for Gerry to fall madly in love with them, but on the other hand, they don't want him to be too hetero either because that would mean that he's dating hot babes and enjoying his sex life.
They are incredibly protective of him so if they can SAVE him from someone who appears to be as obssessed as they are, or who blatantly show their obsession, the deal is to notify the cops right away and the publicist in hopes of getting (in their heads) much deserved Gerry points!!
Yep! Cuz that's THE ONLY thing that will get Gerry to their site.

I never understood the idea of "being the one". How in the world can thousands of women believe that they are the one? What if all of them believe that God, their stars, Buddah, etc, told them that they are the "one"? They all can't be the one, unless they share, and lord knows if they think they are the one, that sharing is off boundaries.

It boggles the mind. It really does.

Donna, I'm like you. I cannot romantically love someone without getting to know someone. I can fantasize, romanticize, and pretend, but I cannot really love in the sense that an intimate couple can, from far away.

Honestly, I don't understand on how people can stay with one person for the rest of their lives.
I take my hat off and salute those who can do it!
I don't mean to get deep on you guys here, but I don't know if you guys have noticed through your relationships, but in my personal experiences (MAJORLY PLURAL), I have come to understand that we grow til the day we die. SOme faster, some slower...hell, some not at all...so how can you remain with the same person if the mind has evolved to a higher level of thought?
How can you remain with someone who you were madly in love with in the beginning, but 5-6 years down the road you have grown and matured and that person HAS NOT grown and matured with you?
It is very rare that 2 individuals evolve together at approx the same rate and same level. ONLY then can you call yourselves soulmates!!
Just my opinion of course, but that's my view, and that's why I think Marriage is pointless.

Well, I don't believe that my soulmate would necessarily be my spouse. I also don't believe that I have only one soulmate all my life. I've had soulmates at different times, but only one at time.

It must be great when your soulmate is your spouse. That must be a wonderful thing.

Sometimes, you gotta wonder...but I don't. I just want him to get on with his life, make lots of movies so I can be entertained, and take some girl so that we can see how many of his fans will still be around.

If a site takes a certain stance on something and follows it, then it is their perogative to do so. I might not agree with it, but I still respect their right to run their site the way they best see fit. Personally, I'd rather see a site stick to their guns and do something I might not agree with, than straddle the fence and change the rules when it's convenient for them to do so.

While I don't want to censor members from speaking their minds here, at the same time I don't want this forum and this thread to become a place to bash other sites. Agree to disagree with them. They have their rules, and we have ours.

I was just observing the general fandom

I think you have the good and bad in all fandoms. It's what I've seen, and probably what many of you have seen wherever you came from.

Every site has a different purpose. We're all going to be different and I've learned that no one is better than the other.

The real fans adore his talents and learn to see past his mistakes.
The real fans will always be interested in him no matter if he's married, gay, trisexual, bisexual, heterosexual, asexual...
The real fans will see the real Gerry and accept him for everything his worth.

For me, there is a line to accepting him. I accept him as an actor, but there are things that are annoying that he does, which I personally think he can do different. I'm not going around saying he needs to change for me. But I don't have to accept those things that I find rude. I find that it's probably only me, because everyone else pretty much accepts him whole. I'll just accept the entertainer. I feel that if I accept such rude behavior, then I am not respecting myself as a person, and I won't do that.

It's funny, because I could accept the smoking more than rude behavior, BUT I'll give him that he is most rude to razzi situations.
