Tell me about it. Not a very good interviewer.

Look now, I've taken to critiquing interviewers. Laughing

Y'all don't like interviewers who don't get vulgar? They can't win in Butlerdom!

Sounds like they threw in a rookie for a throwaway piece.

LJ, I speak for myself when I say that I don't especially enjoy vulgarity as a substitute for good humour. A little goes a looooong way.

Rookie would nicely sum up that interviewer. He was taking the mickey out of her and fobbing off her dumb questions and I'm not sure she even realised it.

"taking the mickey out of her"? "fobbing off"? In English, please!

Fob off = palm off, evade.

Taking the mickey = mock.

Each time she so clumsily asked a personal question, he gave glib answers and threw it back at her. She wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

BTW I speakie English. It's only the Yanks who have trouble with our idioms!

That's because we're superior to all others in the world. We make everyone else learn OUR idioms. Happy Cheeky Perving Gerard Butler interview - MSN Germany 646968

BTW, Southerners ain't Yanks. We're 'Mericans!

Why do all other countries import US movies and TV shows but don't export them here? It's totally unfair. Y'all get to learn about our cultures but we don't get to learn about y'all's.

I've seen plenty of foreign shows from all over. I have an inkling.

Because 1) the powers that be think that Americans can't understand accents....and well, most of them can't, and audiences complain about having to read close captions when films are made in other languages

2) there are channels out there, but you have to pay extra to get them...except BBC America sucks! How many shows does BBC channels have in the UK and we get, what, 5, maybe 10? And lord forbid we get anything from Australia.

Unless you get the huge mega big satellite, that will only fit on your front lawn.

3) plus it costs a lot more to make and sell American shows, so they need all the means to pay for the shows they can get.

I can't recall ever seeing any Australian show.

Why do other countries want to watch our shows? We're so depraved in those shows.

I don't either, Sami, and neither do most of my family.

Once in a while, we'll get a movie on IFC or Sundance from other countries, but still.

We don't get a lot of foreign programmes here. Only news programmes. All American , British or Australian shows and movies are synchronized (is that the right word for translation in movies and TV shows scratch ?) And unfortunately the guy who is doing the German voiceover for GB has a really straaaange voice! They also translate interviews, so unless you are able to watch the original versions on the internet or on DVD you get stupid, sometimes even incorrect information!

As we are so far off topic, it's up to me to introduce the plebs to some Australian comedy, n'est pas?

I agree that Gerry was quite glib in his interview, but I don't blame him. I'm sure he was expecting to talk about his movie instead of his personal life. After all, there were a couple of clips of LAC.

Funny shows, Nay!

Oh and I like BBC America.

Agree with you there, PJ. He was very glib (and practiced) but then he was there promoting LAC not to reveal his social lifestyle. Oh well, this is a simple example for the interviewer of getting back what you give out.

Those Australian comedy shows were off the top of my head so I'll aim for Drama next.
